Background

In the beginning, God ….

Absolutely, unique and wonderfully hopeful viewof creation by a single all-powerful goodCreator God.

The height of this Creation was humanity –both male and female made in God's image with a spirit, (soul) and capabilities for free will, relationships, love, justice, creativity, …, etc.

Genesis

Marriage, sexual union, separation from parentswere all part of the designer's plan, not parentalinterference in the children's family life.

This God is eternally self-existent and the wise and powerful creator of everything thatexists visible and invisible.

He is not simple but complex. Genesis uses language which indicates some kind of plurality within him. (Let us make man in our image)

The first humans failed to trust their Creator fully even though they had intimate daily fellowshipwith Him.

They believed the words of another creature, ate what was forbidden and were subjected tothe bad consequences of their actions.

This distrust became a kind of spiritual disease (sin) which spread to all humans.

7

Sin lead to separation from intimate relationship with the Creator, domination, suffering, and death.

God did not give up on humanity but put a rescue plan in motion that he had planned frombefore the Creation of the world. (Eph 1:4, Rev. 13:8, I Pet 1:20).

He allowed people to still have a relationshipwith Him if they chose based on somefuture action of God. (the defeat of the serpent by the woman's offspring) Genesis 3:15, 3:21, 4:4-

Human depravity became so bad God destroyedall but one family of 8 with a universal flood.

He started over with the offspring of that family, but soon terrible evil was planned –the construction of a tower to reach heaven showing the arrogance of human sinful pride.

Finally God started with one person, Abram and his wife Sarai, to begin to developa special people among all earth's populationwho would learn much more specific information and follow God more closely.

Yet God did not destroy them but scattered them across the earth which led to the development of numerous cultures and languages with a common past.
