� Do you like outdoor work do you have a heart to minister to backpackers
� The Gatton Baptist Church runs a number of activities aimed at sharing Gods word to backpackers
� We are looking for volunteers to, help develop relationships with backpackers and assist them to get to know Christ
� There is farm work available all year round in Gatton

� Gatton is approximately 1 hour west of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia.
� The best way to get to Gatton is in the bus from Roma Street Transit Centre. It cost about $22.00 and takes a bit over an hour and a half

Backpacker Ministry Overview
Our aim is to demonstrate Christs love through kindness, generosity and service.
The biblical principals we operate under are
Mt 28:19 So you must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Pr 11:25 A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Blanket, Bible, and Tract Programs
A number of blankets are available free for use in caravans in the colder months.
Backpacker bibles are placed through out the church for anyone who wants one.
A tracts table is located in the foyer for any one who wants them.
Home Hospitality
Where possible church members are encouraged to invite backpackers to there home for a meal.
Sometimes we get spoiled and the backpackers cook for us.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
� Harvesting vegetable crops around Gatton will involve working on your own, in pairs or as part of a team. The job can involve , standing, kneeling, laying or sitting while moving through the crop. The work can be repetitious and tiring. but rewarding and often a means to an end when travelling.
� Crops are collected in various ways; produce is often placed into buckets, tubs or lugs. It can be cut, clipped or picked and placed into a bag strapped to the shoulders. On some occasions produce can be harvested in bunches and placed onto trays or placed into bins.
� There is also work available associated with the harvest in packing sheds, and other processing plants.
� There are crops within this area that require machinery operation for example olive, grapes, potatoes and onions are all harvested by machine. Experience in this area is highly sort after.
WORKING CONDITIONS
� Pay Rates and ConditionsPay rates and conditions vary form crop to crop and may include:
� Wages paid on a weekly basis � Casual work paid on an hourly basis � Piecework paid on a per unit harvested basis � Negotiation agreed on a start to finish basis. � Rates and conditions are based on registered awards
that are binding between the farmer and you.� As an EXAMPLE ONLY the average wage for a fruit
picker who is paid hourly is between $14.00 - $15.00 per hour. Top
WORK REQUIREMENTS
Weather� Most harvesting jobs are done outdoors with little or no
protection form the weather. Many jobs are in locations where extremely high temperatures in summer are common up to 45 degrees Celsius.
Physical/Personal� Most harvest jobs require a reasonable level of individual
physical fitness, in particular fruit and vegetable harvesting. Lifting is often required with all harvest positions.
Legal Requirements
Australian Tax File Number (TFN)� To work you will require an Australian Tax File Number.
Appropriate taxes are to be paid on all earning you make. The rate will be determined by your current working arrangements. These are collected by the employer and submitted to the Australian Taxation Office. If you fail to provide a TFN you will be taxed at the highest rate.
Visas� When visiting Australia and wanting to work you must
have a current and appropriate working visa. .
Accommodation
� Caravan park
The Caravan Park is a “bit rough” the Caravans are old and a bit dingy. They are hot in summer and cold in winter but they are cheap. The atmosphere at the park is good with approximately 100 to 200 back packers from all over the world staying there. Cost approx $ 50.00 per week.
� Share HousesThese are located throughout Gatton and consist of a number of backpackers sharing a house usually you will have one room to your self with all other facilities shared. Cost between $80 – $100 per week
