life vs
technology
People create some amazing tools
But our tools have limits
They cannot get their own energy
They remain as they were built and do not grow.
They do not prepare for predictable events
When damaged, they do not heal
And they cannot not self-replicate
Our creations are amazing but limited tools.
Compare that to a simple, low-tech life form
Behold the marvel of the seed.
It is designed to grow roots down, leaves up
It harvests light and water to create energy
As the seasons change, it prepares for winter
It survives through killing freezes.
If it is damaged it heals itself
When spring comes, it revives itself
It can grow over 100 feet tall and live for centuries
Every year it creates hundreds of seeds.
All of that potential is in each little seed
Humans have not created anything as complex as a maple seed.
Let alone an orange tree seed
Or the infinitely more complex butterfly
Not to mention a bird
Or a cat
Or a human
Or a life-sustaining planet nestled in the void of space
Seriously
Maybe it’s not fair comparing life to technology, but that’s the point
There is an intelligence vastly superior to ours
A force far greater than we can conjure
A designer more elegant
A creator of complexities beyond our imagination
While we can build useful tools
We are outclassed by a single seed.
