Hebrews 10:35-39 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has great

reward. (36) For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done

the will of God, you may receive the promise: (37) "For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. (38) Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him." (39) But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the

soul.

DON' T THROW AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE

CONFIDENCEA. The Book of faith--Hebrews

B. Hebrews talks about confidence on several occasions.1. Hebrews 3:6--hold on to our confidence2. Hebrews 3:14 --hold firmly our confidence till the

end3. Hebrews 4:16 Come boldly to the throne of grace 4. Hebrews 10:19 since we have boldness5. Hebrews 10:35 do not throw away your

confidence6. Hebrews 13:6 we may boldly say, "The Lord is

my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"

4 REASONS NOT TO THROW

AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE (Heb 10:26-39)

I. BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING ELSE TO SAVE US

(Heb 10:26) For if we sin willfully after we have

received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains

a sacrifice for sins,

I. BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING ELSE TO SAVE US

A. Have confidence, because there is nothing else to save us.

B. Verse 26 "there no longer remains a sacrifice for our sins."

C. Acts 4:12--no other name .......by which we must be saved

D. If we lose confidence in the cross of Christ, we lose confidence in the ONLY plan of salvation.

II. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER WRATH THAN GOD'S

(Heb 10:27-31) but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour

the adversaries. {28} Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. {29} Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought

worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by

which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? {30} For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says

the Lord. And again, “The LORD will judge His people.” {31} It is a fearful thing to fall into the

hands of the living God.

II. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER WRATH THAN GOD'S

A. Fearful expectation of Judgment1. Now there's something to worry about. (Mat

13:40-42) "Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. {41} "The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, {42} "and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

2. But not if you hold on to your confidence in God.

II. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER WRATH THAN GOD'S

B. Firey Indignation1. Romans 1:18--For the wrath of God

is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men

2. But not those who hold onto their confidence in God.

II. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER WRATH THAN GOD'S

C. Dying without mercy1. (Deu 21:18-21) "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious

son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, {19} "then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city. {20} "And they shall say to the elders of his city, 'This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.' {21} "Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall put away the evil from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear.

2. Psalm 116:115--Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints.

II. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER WRATH THAN GOD'S

D. WORSE....1. v. 31-It is a fearful thing to fall into

the hands of the living God.2. (Luke 12:4-5) “And I say to you, My

friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. {5} “But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!

III. BECAUSE OF PAST EXPERIENCE (Heb 10:32-36) But recall the former days in

which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: {33} partly while you were made a spectacle both

by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; {34} for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you

have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven. {35} Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great

reward. {36} For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God,

you may receive the promise:

III BECAUSE OF PAST EXPERIENCEA. Swap stories of how God has been faithful in our lives.

1. Elijah threw away his confidencea. (1 Ki 19:1-4) And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done,

also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. {2} Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” {3} And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. {4} But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”

b. A man who faced 400 prophets and yet one woman makes a threat and he runs for his life and hides.

III BECAUSE OF PAST EXPERIENCEA. Swap stories of how God has been faithful in our lives.

1. Elijah2. Joseph naming his children: Genesis 41:51-52

a. Manasseh "because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father's household."

b. Ephraim "because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering."

c. Unhappy, but kept trusting God.d. Genesis 50:20 You intended to harm me,

but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

B. Don't lose your confidence because of experience

IV. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER REWARDS THAN GOD'S (Heb 10:37-39) “For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. {38} Now the just shall

live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” {39} But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of

the soul.

IV. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER REWARDS THAN GOD'SA. Abraham looking for another home in (Heb

11:8-10) By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. {9} By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; {10} for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

IV. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER REWARDS THAN GOD'SB. Moses looked forward to the reward - (Heb

11:24-27) By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, {25} choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, {26} esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward. {27} By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.

IV. BECAUSE THERE'S NO GREATER REWARDS THAN GOD'SC. Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8 "I have fought the

good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day -- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. "

IS CHRISTIANITY WORTH THE TROUBLE THAT YOU HAVE TO

ENDURE?A. We 'have not yet resisted to bloodshed?“ Heb 12:4

B. Of course it's worth it and that means it is worth doing well. Eccl 9:10

C. One day we will hear, "Well done good and faithful servant.“ Mat 25:21

D. Hold on to your confidence, don't throw it away, the rewards are tremendous.

E. Hebrews 10:35 Do not throw away your confidence, which has great reward.
