Objective of Lesson

2. To understand Baptism and Salvation
3. To understand how the word “believe” and faith is used in the bible.
Is baptism from Man or GOD?
• John 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.
• John Identified God as “He that sent me to baptize with water”
Is baptism from Man or GOD?
• Matthew 21:24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
• Matthew 21:25 The baptism of John, from where was it? from heaven, or of menfrom heaven, or of men? And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did you not then believe him?

• Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
• John 1:25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptize you then, if you are not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet?
• The Pharisees related baptism or immersion to the process of becoming identified with great people of GOD.

• One time is enough…how many times does it have to say don’t commit murder for it to be relevant?
• WHAT IS SIGNIFICANT IS>>>>>>>>
Salvation never appears before baptism always following when baptism and salvation are mentioned together
• None of the many passages in which baptism appears indicate that baptism was administered to people who were already saved!
• Concepts like forgiveness of sins and saved always appear after—never before--baptism

• Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
• Mark 16:16 He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be condemned.

• Luke 3:3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
• Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

• Believe (Gk. Verb: pisteuo)—occurs 240 times
• Faith (Gk. Noun: pistis) is found 243 times.
• These are key words in the bible too!
Believe and Faith
• Believe and Faith are NOT two different concepts!
• The only difference is that believebelieve is a verb (indicating the acceptance that takes place in the heart and motivates actionmotivates action)
• Faith is a noun identifying what is in the heart of the one who believes.
