START WITH THE ENDING - David Wilcox

Page 3: Do Not Lie

The secret of a happy marriage, maybe you should write this down If you want to keep a love together, the best way is to end it now Because when you both know its over, suddenly the truth comes out You can talk about your secret passion, you can talk about your restless doubt

Page 4: Do Not Lie

When there's no pretending, then the truth is safe to say, Start with the ending, get it out of the way Now there's no defending, because no one has to win Start with the ending, it’s the best way to begin

THE TRUTH ABOUT TRUTH

Page 7: Do Not Lie

John 7:28-29 So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know. I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.”

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

ABSOLUTE OR RELATIVE?

Page 13: Do Not Lie

But you cannot go on “explaining away” for ever: you will find that you have explained explanation itself away. You cannot go on “seeing through” things for ever. The whole point of seeing through something is to see something through it. It is good that the window should be transparent, because the street or garden beyond it is opaque.

Page 14: Do Not Lie

How if you saw through the garden too? If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To “see through” all things is the same as not to see. - C.S. Lewis

THE TRUTH ABOUT LYING

Page 16: Do Not Lie

John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

John 18:37-38 Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth.

Page 24: Do Not Lie

Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” !After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him.

IF YOU’RE NOT REPENTING, YOU’RE LYING

Page 26: Do Not Lie

If there is one thing God hates, it is the lies that Christians tell to make themselves look more righteous than they really are. Our testimony is that we are unrighteous, that there is no way we could ever be saved apart from the grace of God in Jesus Christ. The real truth about us is that we are so guilty that the very Son of God had to be

crucified to pay for our sins. If this is true, then why would we ever pretend to be anything more than sinners saved by grace? To act like we have it spiritually together is a lie. But even more it is a denial of the grace of God, which alone has the power to save us. - Philip Ryken

IF YOU’RE NOT BELIEVING, YOU’RE LYING

Colossians 2:13-14 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

John 8:31-32 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
