TYPE ‘0’CONDITIONALS

We use this type of ‘Conditional’ when: 1. We refer to general truths or facts e.g. Water boils, if we heat it to a

temperature of 100 degree C. (fact) e.g. If we dip a piece of paper in acid, it

turns blue. (general truth) 2. We refer to actions that take place

regularly e.g. Dad always reads the papers, if he

wakes up early.

TYPE ‘1’CONDITIONALS

We use this type of ‘Conditional’ when: 1. We refer to an event or an action which

will probably happen in the future, make a promise, or give a warning.

e.g. If Claire completes the project on time, she will get a promotion. (possible action)

e.g. If I finish my classes before five this evening, I will join you for dinner. (promise)

e.g. If you donot give me a good reason for not doing the work, I will complain to the manager. (to give warning)

We use this type of ‘Conditional’ when 1. We refer to refer to actions or

situations which are imaginary or for situations which are impossible.

e.g. If I owned this beautiful mansion, I would have a large pool on the top floor to relax in and enjoy the view. (imaginary)

e.g. If I were the president, I would allocate more money to help the poor and needy. (impossible situation)

We use this type of ‘Conditional’ when: 2. We give or ask for advice. e.g. If I had such a well-paid job, I would

work harder.(imaginary) e.g. If you were in my position, what

would you do? (ask for advice)
