Verse 5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

You – is you - if you are hearing this message or reading a passage, then the writer is speaking to you.

Lack – Leipo – to leave, or be absent, or be left behind

Wisdom – Sophias – means broad and full of intelligence; it is used of the knowledge of very diverse matters***

INTELLIGENCE The word intelligence in Hebrew is (Biyn)

(bene) means to separate mentally or distinguish Biyn – basically means to understand, be

able, deal wisely, consider, pay attention to, notice, discern, perceive, inquire.

Intelligence (N) “Faculty of understanding” power of discerning; art, skill

Intelligere –Latin verb derives from (inter-between) and ( Legere- meaning to pick out choose (lecture)

Lecture – an exposition of a given subject delivered before an audience or a class, as for the purpose of instruction

Instruction – Hebrew word is Muwcar (moosawr) it means warning, correction, discipline, doctrine

Instruction (law) as discipline it teaches how to live correctly in the (fear –see) the Lord, so that the wise man learns his lesson and considered it well

*** Proverbs: 24:32) I looked upon it, and received instruction – this discipline is training for life; hence, paying attention to MUWCAR - instruction is important.( What is the it?) Illustrate ***

*** Ask – Aiteo – suggests the attitude of a suppliant the petition of one who is lesser in position, than he to whom the petition is made. Child asking a parent Man asking God

So many people have a fear of asking, sometimes we ask the wrong person (give example)

God – Theos – deity, supreme divinity (the word God is a title) same as the President

In the old testament “ G-D” comes from the Hebrew words Elohim and Yahweh (YHVH)

Elohim indicating power and preeminence (superiority, greatness, excellence)

Theology - from Greek Theo “ GOD “ and Logy “ Study of “ is systematic and rational study of concepts of God and its influences and of the nature of religious truth. Also means utterance, sayings, oracles

Augustine of Hippo defined the Latin equivalent, Theologia as Reasoning or discussion concerning deity.

Is the movement of the things by destruction and generation. The old is left behind and the new comes forth

The image is window. The letter stems from a root that means “to breath” in the sense of allowing air and light to see and breath are two vital aspect of life. A window allows light and air to come in. It is an opening by which the light outside can reach us.

Teach, flow as water, i.e (to rain) to lay or throw (an arrow) to shoot to point out also to cast, to direct --- The concept of teaching as to pointing out of facts and truth. To throw seems to further extend, mean to point by which a finger is thrown in a certain direction (Gen: 46:18)

Verse 6, 7, 8 (NASB) But he must ask in faith without any

doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf or wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.

For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord.

Being a double minded man, unstable in all his ways.
