Genesis 26:1-3, 6, 12-13Genesis 26:1-3, 6, 12-13

1 There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar. 2 Then the LORD appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. 3 Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you…6 So Isaac dwelt in Gerar. 12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him. 13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous;

Ruth 1:1-5Ruth 1:1-5

1 Now it came to pass, in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah, went to dwell in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. 2 The name of the man was Elimelech, the name of his wife was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion—Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to the country of Moab and remained there.

3 Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons. 4 Now they took wives of the women of Moab: the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth. And they dwelt there about ten years. 5 Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died; so the woman survived her two sons and her husband.

Genesis 26 vs. Ruth 1Genesis 26 vs. Ruth 1 Similar circumstances (famine in

the land), different outcomes (Ishak was blessed, Elimelech died). How come?

Elimelech: The strength of the king => Sin nature (who is the king? Himself)

He lived during the Judges time… Judges 21:25 In those days there

was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

God was not their King, therefore everybody is king of their own life.

Elimelech relied on his own strength and not on the Lord => he died

Ishak heard from God and obeyed => he was blessed

Under pressure, facing challenges, in chaos and confusion God never intended His children to make decisions by human intelligence.

God never intended His children to live by flesh but empowered and directed by His Spirit (your inner GPS)

We need to learn to be lead by Holy Spirit.

John 14:25-27

25"All this I have spoken while still with you. 26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

How do we renew our mind? Thru His Word and close personal relationship with God (Ps. 119:107)

Do not conform to the world but be transformed by the Word!
