• Jesus warned His followers of what it might cost to follow Him.

• Jesus said, “If you love your father or mother more than you love Me, you are not worthy of being Mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than Me, you are not worthy of being Mine. If you refuse to take up your cross and follow Me, you are not worthy of being Mine.” (Matthew 10:37–38, NLT)

• “If the world hates you, remember that it hated Me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted Me, naturally they will persecute you. • One of the signs of commitment is doing what Jesus commands.

• A lot of the New Testament deals with these two questions especially in the context of Christian fellowships – the church.

• If the Christians didn't get it right amongst themselves their witness to the community outside the church would be worthless.

• Encouraging each other to care and support and help each other not just in words but in practical activities.
