Gal 3:23 NKJV But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.

Before Christ came, before the faith of Christianity came, where were we?

Gal 3:10-13 NKJV For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT CONTINUE IN ALL THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO DO THEM." (11) But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." (12) Yet the law is not of faith, but "THE MAN WHO DOES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM." (13) Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE"),

What does it mean to be cursed here?

Cursed here means subject to the DOOM of the Condemnation of God

Those under the Law were DOOMED!

Deu 27:26 NKJV 'Cursed is the one who does not confirm all the words of this law.' "And all the people shall say, 'Amen!' "

Eph 2:13-16 NKJV But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (14) For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, (15) having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, (16) and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

Before Faith came we had not received the Gen 12:2-3 NKJV I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. (3) I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

Gen 22:18 NKJV In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."

Heb 11:13 NKJV These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

A Promise of Faith 430 Years Before the Law

Rom 3:23-25 NKJV for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (24) being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, (25) whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,

Before Faith came we were Burdened by Sin & Under the Law

Gal 3:19-20 NKJV What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. (20) Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.

Rom 5:13-14 NKJV (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. (14) Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.

Before Faith came we were Burdened by Sin & Under the Law

Jesus is our Mediator:

Heb 1:1-3 NKJV God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, (2) has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; (3) who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Before Faith came we were Burdened by Sin & Under the Law

Jesus is our Mediator:

1Ti 2:5-6 NKJV For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, (6) who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

Heb 8:6 NKJV But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

Before Faith came we were still in School

Gal 3:23-25 NKJV But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. (24) Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. (25) But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

But Now Faith Has Come

Gal 3:26-29 NKJV For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (29) And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
