A Mothers Faith

Matthew 15:21-28

1. Her Indigence (Need)

Matthew 15:22 (NKJV) 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed."

She knew what she needed.

She knew where to go for help.

2. Her Ignorance

Matthew 15:22 (NKJV) 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed."

As Son of David, Jesus came only to the House of Israel.

Matthew 15:24 (NKJV) 24 But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

3. Her Intercession

Matthew 15:25 (NKJV) 25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!"

A real need keeps us on our knees.

Notice her attitude – she “worshipped.”

4. Her Insistence (Importunate Prayer)

Matthew 15:27 (NKJV) 27 And she said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."

She would not give up.

God is looking for women (and men) who will storm heaven, who will not give up at the first hurdle, who will press through in prayer.

Matthew 15:23 (NKJV) 23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us."

Notice their selfishness – “after us”.

Compare it to the Saviours compassion.

5. Her Intervention.

Matthew 15:28 (NKJV) 28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person (man) avails much.

God honouring, persistent faith, receives from God what it truly needs.
