Today we live in a world where we have many distractions and temptations.

How can we become what God wants us to be in spite of the many things that seek to repress the spirit that we have to contend with on a daily basis

Perhaps this has happened to you before:



You sit down on the sofa, tired from the day’s work, and put on the television. One of your favourite programmes is on.


Then, you realised it was prayer time and you ought to pray..but really, you want to watch this programme first..then ..after wasting much precious time that that you will need something to

get you out of the sofa bed to the prayer closet.


The William McDowell’s popular hit began playing in your mind...” I give myself away..so you can use me... “ Well, that happened to me! I have been singing that

song, and probably so have you. The question for today is “What does it mean to give oneself away?”


Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.


We learn from Paul writing to the Romans that 1. you need to bring your body to

God’s presence, that is “to present your bodies


2.You need to put that body on the altar and kill the flesh. This is what it means to have a sacrifice. But the sacrifice God wants is not suicide but “ a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God”


1. , which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.


3. You need to offer God service, not just any service, a “reasonable service”Paul identified that there are things that prevent us from being able to

offer God sacrifice or service. This relate to compromise.


Hence4. He said fourthly, “And do not be conformed to this world”. The use of “and” means they both go together. ,


You cant be a living sacrifice while being conformed to the world.James 4:3-4 makes it clear that friendship with the world is enmity with God.


…3You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. 4You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

5. The fifth thing we need to do is to feed our mind with the right resource. The word of God equips us for transformation. Paul says “, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”.

The word of God is not of no effect. According to 2 Tim 3:16

6. Finally, when we have allowed the word of God to take the word of the devil out of our life, Paul says we may then be able to prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.


7. This means we have no proof of being a living sacrifice, or of being acceptable to God until we know and do what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God.


That can only be in the place of humble obedience and sincere fellowship with him.

I pray today that you will be a living sacrifice and not a dead, rotten meat which is of no value to him in Jesus name.
