2. 2Joab convinced King David tobring Absalom back fromexile after three years inGeshur.David allowed Joab to bringhim back to Jerusalem, butwould not allow him in thepalace.David would not see him at all. 3. 32 Sam 14:25 But in all Israel therewas none to be so much praisedas Absalom for his beauty:from the sole of his foot evento the crown of his head therewas no blemish in him.Good looks do not indicate good character. If all one can be praised for is beauty, I think heor she needs to work on character. But often they think it excuses their bad behavior. 4. 4Many a polluted, deformed soul dwells in a fairand comely body.Matthew Henry Concise Bible CommentaryCharlie Tiger 5. 526 And when he polled hishead (cut his hair), (for itwas at every years end thathe polled it: because the hairwas heavy on him, thereforehe polled it:) he weighed thehair of his head at twohundred shekels (about fivepounds) after the kingsweight. 6. 6His hair was his pride.Even though it was very heavy,he only cut it once a year.People will endure painful things tofeed their pride in appearance. 7. 7Psalm 33 1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous:for praise is comely (beautiful) for the upright.2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto Him withthe psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. 3 Singunto Him a new song; play skillfully with a loudnoise.Psalm 147 1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good tosing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; andpraise is comely. The Bible tells us what is truly beautiful: 8. 81 Chronicles 16 29 Give unto the LORD the glorydue unto His Name: bring an offering, and comebefore Him: worship the LORD in the beauty ofholiness.True beauty is a life of holiness andgood character.A life set aside unto theLord is a beautiful life. 9. 9Proverbs 31 30 Favor is deceitful, and beauty isvain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shallbe praised. There is nothing wrong with physical grace andoutward beauty, but it wont last. The Young and theRestless 10. 101 Peter 3:3-4 (TLB) Dont be concerned about theoutward beauty that depends on jewelry, orbeautiful clothes, or hair arrangement. Be beautifulinside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of agentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to God.A Christian lady or a Christian gentlemanis the look that we need to strive for.To focus on fleeting beauty is vain.Focus on having a beautifulcharacter, and you will always bebeautiful. 11. 112 Sam 14:27 And unto Absalom there were born threesons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar:she was a woman of a fair countenance.2 Samuel 18 18 Now Absalom in his lifetime hadtaken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is inthe kings dale: for he said, I have no son to keepmy name in remembrance: and he called the pillarafter his own name: and it is called unto this day,Absaloms place.Clearly his sons all died very young. 12. 1228 So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the kings face. 29 Therefore Absalomsent for Joab, to have sent him to the king; but hewould not come to him: and when he sent again thesecond time, he would not come. 30 Therefore hesaid unto his servants, See, Joabs field is nearmine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absaloms servants set the field on fire.Joab was the man who interceded for Absalomto persuade David to bring him home.See how evilly he repays the favor. 13. 1331 Then Joab arose, andcame to Absalom untohis house, and saidunto him, Whereforehave thy servants setmy field on fire? 14. 1432 And Absalom answeredJoab, Behold, I sent untothee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to theking, to say, Wherefoream I come from Geshur?it had been good for me tohave been there still: nowtherefore let me see thekings face; and if there beany iniquity in me, let himkill me.UngratefulAn ungrateful heart isnever content. An ungrateful heartcomplains and gripesall the time. 15. 15Colossians 3 15 And let the peace of God rule inyour hearts, to the which also ye are called in onebody; and be ye thankful. It is impossible to enjoy the peace of Godin an ungrateful heart.Gratitude brings Peaceand contentment. 16. 16To one who is not thankful unto God life isalways wearisome and stressful.Ecclesiastes 1:8 (TLB) Everything is unutterablyweary and tiresome. No matter how much we see,we are never satisfied; no matter how much wehear, we are not content. That was Absalom in a nutshell. 17. 1733 So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when hehad called for Absalom, hecame to the king, and bowedhimself on his face to theground before the king: andthe king kissed Absalom.Seeming reconciliationIt aint real !Absalom is already plotting to overthrow the king. 18. 18HypocrisyHebrews 10 22 Let us drawnear with a true heart infull assurance of faith, having our heartssprinkled from an evilconscience, and our bodieswashed with pure water. 19. 19You can fool all the people some of the time, andyou can fool some of the people all the time:But you cant fool God.Psalm 24 3 Who shall ascend into the hill of theLORD? or who shall stand in His Holy Place? 4 Hethat hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hathnot lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworndeceitfully. 5 He shall receive the blessing from theLORD, and righteousness from the God of hissalvation.
