1:4

(4)through these things he has bestowed on us his precious and most magnificent promises, so that by means of what was promised you may become partakers of the divine nature, after escaping the worldly corruption that is produced by evil desire.

❖How great it is that I have been given promises and that I have a divine nature. This has been handed to me after my soul has escaped the corruption that was engulfed around my heart. The evil demons that had enslaved me are now gone. Now all the promises that God has for those walking in the Spirit I can truly claim.

(5)For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith excellence, to excellence, knowledge;   (6) to knowledge, self-control; to self-control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness;   (7) to godliness, brotherly affection; to brotherly affection, unselfish love.   (8) For if these things are really yours and are continually increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately.

❖ Lord help me to keep this hunger of studying your word. I really want to have this be my pursuit on a daily basis. Help me to have knowledge and self control and unselfish love.

❖ (19) Although these false teachers promise such people freedom, they themselves are enslaved to immorality. For whatever a person succumbs to, to that he is enslaved.   (20) For if after they have escaped the filthy things of the world through the rich knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they again get entangled in them and succumb to them, their last state has become worse for them than their first.   (21) For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.   (22) They are illustrations of this true proverb: "A dog returns to its own vomit," and "A sow, after washing herself, wallows in the mire."

❖ I really feel as if this passage really describes the cult that I have been told I was apart of. In fact quite a deal of this chapter I feel is talking to situations like the occult I was apart of and perhaps many more of them.

(9)The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

❖I really cannot believe how patient God has been in my life. That he had been patient and endured with me to bring me to this point. If anyone was slow, I believe it is me, because it has taken me this long to understand and come to a place where I am growing in God like a “mad-man.”

(18)But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the honor both now and on that eternal day.

❖ This is my desire above all else; to continue to grow into a huge knowledge with the Lord.
