Having been reconciled to the Father by the precious blood of Christ, we present our prayers to Him on behalf of the whole Christian Church and all people according to their need. For the Christian Church throughout the world; for The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod; for Matthew, our Synod president, and _________, our district president; and for pastors, deaconesses, teachers, church workers and all the faithful, that Christ would use us to gather the nations to Him, our one true Redeemer, as we joyfully proclaim that Jesus is Lord. Hear our prayer, O Lord, and let our cry come to You! For the healing of divisions

among God’s people, that the Lord would curb sinful ambition, silence the desires of our sinful flesh and grant us hearts to be reconciled with each other in Christian love, so that all people will know we are His disciples… For our national, state and local officials, all who work in government and all who contribute to our general welfare, that God would grant them wisdom and temperance; and for our police, firefighters and all who serve in the armed forces, that they may be kept from harm and danger and that, in accordance with God’s will, peace may be established in our day…

For steadfast resolve and joyful spirits as the church engages in works of mercy and love, that we may remember that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand for us to walk in, and for humility, that we may not boast in works, but solely in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ… For the sick and injured [and especially for __________________], that God would grant them comfort and healing, in accordance with His will; and for those who suffer from afflictions not visible to our eyes, that God would have compassion upon

His ailing servants, staying the hand of the evil one, that they may be strengthened in the knowledge of His redeeming love… For all who partake of the Holy Eucharist this day, that in the Savior’s divine body and blood they may receive forgiveness for all sins, a life that never ends and the healing of divine love…  Hear us, O Lord, in these our prayers and grant to us every good and perfect gift through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Preserve your Word, O Savior,To us this latter day,And let your kingdom flourish;Enlarge your Church, we pray.Oh, keep our faith from failing;Keep hope’s bright star aglow.Let nothing from truth turn usWhile living here below.

Preserve, O Lord, your honor,The bold blasphemer smite;Convince, convert, enlightenThe souls in error’s night.Reveal your will, dear Savior,To all who dwell below,Great light of all the living,That all your name may know.

Preserve, O Lord, your Zion,Bought dearly with your blood;Protect what you have chosenAgainst the hellish flood.Be always our defender

When dangers gather round; When all the earth is crumbling,Safe may your Church be found.

Preserve your Word and preaching. The truth that makes us whole,The mirror of your glory,The power that saves the soul.Oh, may this living water,This dew of heavenly grace,Sustain us while here livingUntil we see your face.

Preserve in wave and tempestYour storm-tossed little flock;Assailed by wind and weather,May it endure each shock.Stand at the helm, our pilot,And set the course aright; Then we will reach the harborIn your eternal light.

Exodus 32:1-20The Golden Calf32 When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” 2 So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” 3 So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. 4 And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden[a] calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the LORD.” 6 And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.7 And the LORD said to Moses, “Go down, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. 8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them. They have made for themselves a golden calf and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it and said, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!’” 9 And the LORD said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people. 10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them, in order that I may make a great nation of you.”11 But Moses implored the LORD his God and said, “O LORD,

why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 12 Why should the Egyptians say, ‘With evil intent did he bring them out, to kill them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your burning anger and relent from this disaster against your people. 13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’” 14 And the LORD relented from the disaster that he had spoken of bringing on his people.15 Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets that were written on both sides; on the front and on the back they were written. 16 The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets. 17 When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.” 18 But he said, “It is not the sound of shouting for victory, or the sound of the cry of defeat, but the sound of singing that I hear.” 19 And as soon as he came near the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses' anger burned hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. 20 He took the calf that they had made and burned it with fire and ground it to powder and scattered it on the water and made the people of Israel drink it

Job 14:1-6Job Continues: Death Comes Soon to All14 “Man who is born of a woman    is few of days and full of trouble.2 He comes out like a flower and withers;    he flees like a shadow and continues not.3 And do you open your eyes on such a one    and bring me into judgment with you?4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an

unclean?    There is not one.5 Since his days are determined,    and the number of his months is with you,    and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass,6 look away from him and leave him alone,[a]

that he may enjoy, like a hired hand, his day.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18The Coming of the Lord13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord,[a] that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ

will rise first.17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Matthew 24:15-28 The Abomination of Desolation15 “So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let the one who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house,18 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak.19 And alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 20 Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.22 And if

those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.23 Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will arise andperform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand. 26 So, if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

Luke 17:20-30The Coming of the Kingdom20 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, 21 nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”[a]

22 And he said to the disciples, “The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.23 And they will say to you, ‘Look, there!’ or ‘Look, here!’ Do not go out or follow them. 24 For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.[b]25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this

generation. 26 Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, 29 but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all— 30 so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Psalm 14The Fool Says, There Is No GodTo the choirmaster. Of David.14 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”    They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds,    there is none who does good.2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man,    to see if there are any who understand,[

a]

who seek after God.3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;    there is none who does good,    not even one.4 Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers

who eat up my people as they eat bread    and do not call upon the LORD?5 There they are in great terror,    for God is with the generation of the righteous.6 You would shame the plans of the poor,    but[b] the LORD is his refuge.7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!    When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people,    let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

Psalm 102:1-13Do Not Hide Your Face from MeA Prayer of one afflicted, when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the LORD.102 Hear my prayer, O LORD;let my cry come to you!2 Do not hide your face from me    in the day of my distress!Incline your ear to me;    answer me speedily in the day when I call!3 For my days pass away like smoke,    and my bones burn like a furnace.4 My heart is struck down like grass and has withered;    I forget to eat my bread.5 Because of my loud groaning    my bones cling to my flesh.6 I am like a desert owl of the wilderness,    like an owl[a] of the waste places;

7 I lie awake;    I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.8 All the day my enemies taunt me;    those who deride me use my name for a curse.9 For I eat ashes like bread    and mingle tears with my drink,10 because of your indignation and anger;    for you have taken me up and thrown me down.11 My days are like an evening shadow;    I wither away like grass.12 But you, O LORD, are enthroned forever;    you are remembered throughout all generations.13 You will arise and have pity on Zion;    it is the time to favor her;    the appointed time has come.

Share Time: TWENTY–FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY Exodus 32:1–20or Job 14:1–61 Thessalonians 4:13–18Matthew 24:15–28or Luke 17:20–30 Faith Comes By Hearing the Word of Christ “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed” (Luke 17:20). You must use your ears and not your eyes. For God’s kingdom in this world is one of faith, and faith comes by hearing the Word of Christ. The people of Israel, however, wanted to walk not by faith but by sight. When Moses delayed in coming down the mountain, they decided to make a visible god for themselves, the golden calf (Ex. 32:1). Upon such faithless and false worshipers God’s judgment comes. Only on the Last Day will our faith be turned to sight. “For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man” (Matt. 24:27). The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, and He will gather His people to Himself, both the living and the dead. In a world in which our days are few and full of trouble (Job 14:1), let us comfort one another with these words of the resurrection and the coming of our Lord Jesus.

New Heavens and a New Earth

17 “For behold, I create new heavens    and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered    or come into mind.18 But be glad and rejoice forever    in that which I create;for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy,    and her people to be a gladness.19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem    and be glad in my people;no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping    and the cry of distress.20 No more shall there be in it    an infant who lives but a few days,    or an old man who does not fill out his days, for the young man shall die a hundred years old,    and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed.21 They shall build houses and inhabit them;    they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.22 They shall not build and another inhabit;    they shall not plant and another eat;for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be,    and my chosen shall long enjoy[a] the work of their hands.23 They shall not labor in vain    or bear children for calamity,[b]

for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the LORD,    and their descendants with them.24 Before they call I will answer;    while they are yet speaking I will hear.25 The wolf and the lamb shall graze together;    the lion shall eat straw like the ox,

and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt or destroy    in all my holy mountain,”says the LORD.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

The Day of the Lord

5 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers,[a] you have no need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” thensudden destruction will come upon themas labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.5 For you are all children[b] of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let uskeep awake and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate offaith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Matthew 25:1-13

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

25 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps[a] and went to meet the bridegroom.[b] 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy

and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’7 Then all those virgins rose andtrimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, andthose who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Psalm 149

Sing to the LORD a New Song

149 Praise the LORD!Sing to the LORD a new song,    his praise in the assembly of the godly!2 Let Israel be glad in his Maker;    let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!3 Let them praise his name withdancing,    making melody to him withtambourine and lyre!4 For the LORD takes pleasure in his people;    he adorns the humble with salvation.5 Let the godly exult in glory;    let them sing for joy on theirbeds.6 Let the high praises of God be in their throats    and two-edged swords in their hands,7 to execute vengeance on the nations    and punishments on the peoples,8 to bind their kings with chains    and their nobles with fetters of iron,9 to execute on them the judgmentwritten!    This is honor for all his godly ones.Praise the LORD!
