Acts 17:1-31 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: 2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

What Jesus Did Not Do

DID NOT SinJesus was the only sinless man to live on this earth• “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” Hebrews 4:15

• “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens”• Hebrews 7:26

• “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth” 1 Peter 2:22;John 8:46

DID NOT Seek RevengeEven though He was treated wrongfully, he did not retaliate.• “Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously” 1 Peter 2:23

• Jesus practiced what He preached• He turned the other cheek Matthew 5:39• He humbly submitted to His enemies Matt 27:21-31

DID NOT Relinquish His DeityIt has been taught that Jesus gave up His deity and was just and ordinary man like you and me.• “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” John 1:14

• Jesus was God in the flesh• “the Son of God” - Mark 1:1• “the Son of man” - Mark 14:41

DID NOT Exalt HimselfJesus humbled Himself while on earth• “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” Phil. 2:7-18

• “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” Mark 10:45

DID NOT Ignore Sin & ErrorHe called out sinners He encountered• Opposed the money changers in the temple

• Mark 11:15-17• He admonished the woman taken in adultery

• John 8:1-11• He confronted the woman at the well

DID NOT “Say and Do Not”Many do not practice what they preach.

• Scribes and Pharisees - Matthew 23:1-4• Jesus life was consistent with His teaching

• He “begin both to do and teach” - Acts 1:1• He taught love and loved - John 15:13; 13:34-35• He taught forgiveness and forgave - Matthew 6:14-15

• He taught humility and humbled himself - John 13:4-10

DID Not Apologize for His TeachingMany apologize if their teaching upsets someone.

• Jesus said He “came not to send peace…but a sword”• Matthew 10:34

• Jesus teaching offended those of His day• Matthew 15:12-14; 26:59-68• Mark 14:27-31

DID NOT Build Multiple ChurchesJesus built His One church

• Matthew 16:18• He built NO other churches!• The apostles taught the “one body” (church)

• Ephesians 4:4• The one body “…which is the church…”

• Colossians 1:18, 24• The church “…purchased with his own blood”

• Acts 20:28

DID NOT Come Down From The CrossHis Deity was challenged by those who chanted for Him to come down from the cross.

• Matthew 27:39-44• Jesus could have come down but He did not

• Matthew 26:53-54• He remained on the cross to accomplish the Father’s

will & taste death for all men• Hebrews 2:9; 12:1-2• 1 Timothy 2:6• 1 John 2:2

• He finished His work the Father sent Him to do• John 19:28-38

DID NOT Remain in the GraveJesus was not defeated by death!• He declared victory over death.

• Matthew 16:18; John 2:18-22• Peter cited the prophecy of David that He would rise Acts 2:22-32

• Paul declared His resurrection• 1 Corinthians 15:1-8

• 1 John 1:1-4 John gave an eye witness testimony of Jesus

DID NOT Yet Return To Judge All Jesus promised to return and Judge all!

• John 14:1-4; 5:27-29• Jesus will come and end this age

• 1 Corinthians 15:24-28• His coming will be heard by all

• 1 Corinthians 15:52• His coming will be seen by all

• Revelation 1:7• His coming will bring judgment to all

• 2 Corinthians 5:10; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9• We must watch and make ready for His coming
