1 Kings 9 1 And it came to pass,

Everything does, good or bad.

Whatever your situation right now, it will change.

It may get better; it may get worse.

That depends a lot on the choices we make.

Deuteronomy 11 26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; 27 A blessing, if ye obey the Commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: 28 And a curse, if ye will not obey the Commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the Way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

We get to choose what we want.

1 And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do, 2 That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as He had appeared unto him at Gibeon.

3 And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before Me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put My Name there forever; and Mine eyes and Mine heart shall be there perpetually.

When God deliberately and openly occupies a space, it is Holy.

Solomon’s heart was toward God at this time, and God heard and answered his prayer.

I want this church to be a place that is very evidently

4 And if thou wilt walk before Me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep My Statutes and My Judgments:

6 But if ye shall at all turn from following Me, ye or your children, and will not keep My Command-ments and My Statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: 7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for My Name, will I cast out of My sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

8 And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house? 9 And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.

People’s lives are in such a mess, and they don’t even understand why.

BackslidingProverbs 14 14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

To backslide is to turn from following God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.

Jeremiah 2 19a Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: …

The worldly troubles that come into a backslider’s life are of his own making.

They may be financial, many health problems, rebellious, ungodly children,

divorce, or many others.

Hebrews 10 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the Truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Troubles are guaranteed in a backslider’s life.The way he lives brings them.

Sin produces its own reward.As I taught recently, there are sins of

commission and sins of omission.

We commit sins when we wilfully do things forbidden by God’s Holy Word.

We commit sins when we get lax in doing those things which God’s Word teaches us to do.

Hebrews 10 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, My Soul shall have no pleasure in him.

A Christian should live like a Christian.

Fully trusting God and God alone.

Looking forward unto eternity with The Lord.

Never drawing back or even looking back.

Jeremiah 3:22 (TLB) "O My rebellious children, come back to Me again and I will heal you from your sins." And they reply, "Yes, we will come, for you are the Lord our God.

1 John 1 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
