How Can We Live Our Life to Finish

the Purpose of God (Jesus)?

1. 1. Appreciate the Finished Work

= What is Finished by the Death of Jesus Christ on the Cross?

(1) Solve the Problem of AccessJohn 14:6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Mt. 27:51 - At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split.

No Rejection, but Welcome

Ephesians 2:17-18 - He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

(2) Solve the Problem of SinRomans 5:6 - You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.1Corinthians 15:56 - The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

No Condemnation, but Confidence

Romans 8:1-2 - Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Hebrews 10:19-20,35 - Therefore, brothers/sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, …. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

(3) Solve the Problem of Priesthood

Hebrews 9:12 - He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.

No More Repetition, but Once for all.

Hebrews 7:27 - Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

= What do You Benefit from the Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross?

(1) Curse – Blessing Galatians 3:13 - Christ

redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

(2) Sin – ForgivenessEphesians 1:7 - In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.

(3) Darkness – Light1Peter 2:9 - But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

(4) Bondage – FreedomRomans 6:18 - You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.Romans 8:2 - because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

(5) Sickness – HealingMt. 8:17 - This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”

(6) Separation – ReunionRomans 5:11 - Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

(7) Lost – FoundLuke 19:10 - For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” Luke 15:24 - For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

(8) Shame – HonorRomans 10:11 - As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”John 1:12 - Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

2. 2. Accept the Commissioned Work

Hebrews 12:2 - Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter (Finisher) of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross

= What is the Right Perspective of Jesus’ Finished work in Our Call?

(1) What did Jesus Say after his resurrection

(a) Sending of the Disciples. John 17:18 - As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.John 20:20-21 - After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

(b) Giving of the Great Commission

Mt. 28:18-20 - Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

(c) Sending of the Holy Spirit.Acts 1:8 - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

(2) What did Jesus Do after his resurrection

Mark 16:19-20 - After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

= How is Jesus’ Finishing Connected with Our Finishing?

Mt. 24:14 - And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Mt. 26:26:29 - While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

3. 3. Apply the Continued Work

Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.

= What has to be Finished through the Life of Christians?

(1) For the Lord of All Believers 2Corinthians 5:15 - And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Phil 1:29 - For the privilege has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him.

(2) For the Church of GodColossians 1:24 - Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

(3) For the Kingdom of God2Thess 1:5 - All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.

= What are the Right Concepts in the Application of the Unfinished Work of Christ in this world?

(1) Trial and Destiny 1Thess 3:2-3 - We sent Timothy, who is our brother and God’s fellow worker in spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. You know quite well that we were destined for them.

1Peter 2:21 - To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

(2) Godliness and Persecution2Timothy 3:12 – In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

Acts 9:15,16 – But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

(3) Peace and TroubleJohn 15:18,19 - If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Romans 8:35,37 - Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

How Can We Live Our Life to Finish the Purpose of Jesus?

(1) Appreciate the Finished(2) Accept the Commissioned (3) Apply the Continued
