In this presentation I will demonstrate some common used settings for an amplitude envelope in a synth program

The synth I’m using is amSynth on Linux

The amplitude envelope section is marked with AMP ENV:

Attack: shortDecay: shortSustain: maximumRelease: short
Example usage: organ
Setting 1: switch
Attack: shortDecay: medium to longSustain: zeroRelease: ~ equal to decay
Example usage: Xylophone
Setting 2: Percussive
Attack: shortDecay: slightly longer than percussiveSustain: zeroRelease: fairly short
Example usage: piano
Setting 3: Damped percussive
Attack: shortDecay: mediumSustain: mediumRelease: ~ equal to decay
Example usage: strings
Setting 4: Sustaining (bowed/blown)
Attack: shortDecay: mediumSustain: zeroRelease: long
Example usage: electronic music/trance
Setting 5: Quirk
This concludes the main basic settings for a synth.
Of course there are a lot of other possibilities and things to finetune !
