Thank you for inviting OSGeo to the LARS conference in Santiago Chile March 2016.
I am proud to announce you the 10th anniversary of OSGeo. A good moment to reflect on the growth of the organisation, and to think about some future paths.
I also want to take the opportunity to talk about the possibilities to start with more active participation from Chile people into the OSGeo movement.

In 1992 the GRASS Interagency Coordinating Commitee was founded, it was turned into the Open GRASS Foundation which then became the OpenGIS Consortium.
The timeline shows the evolution.
While Tim Berners-Lee constituted the World Wide Web Consortium, the today's OGC was established.

Community sprints, even more...
Source: Neteler 2016, CC-BY-SAFor those not familiar with it:- it is a gathering of likeminded people- no need to be a developer- newcomers are there up to core developers
Instead of writing 10 emails to discuss an issue, we just discuss it directly, rarely long with some beer

It's the software, Stupid[1][2][3]
OSGeoThe future
Software is becoming more and more important for human life. It is becoming a part of our lives. (todo: find proof).Do we want to depend on some large organisations to organise and develop our future, or do we believe individuals are the cornerstone of our society. If we want to play a role in our future, we should at least be concerned software is a shared asset.Examples of vibrillator/devibrillator and pregnant Women. Only 1/500 + situation to be pregnant.Volkswagen scandalHeartblead bug
Karen Sandler "It really brings home the fact that if you don't have control over the software that you rely on it can be really problematic."Image: SFC
