How did you use new media technologies in the research, planning, construction and evaluation

stages of your project?

Software:• I used iMovie to construct my music

video, it allowed me to place all the clips in the correct order, use editing transitions, add text, add music and alter the appearance of the footage (for example by making it black and white). It gave me the opportunity to experiment with many different effects in order to enhance the quality of my video.

• Photoshop enabled me to make my CD and magazine poster look genuine by allowing me to add a bar code, website and music label as well as general text. Once again it offered a wide range of facilities to make my subsidiary tasks look as professional as possible. I also used Photoshop to construct the plans for my subsidiary tasks.

Hardware:• Technological hardware was paramount to

the the production of my music video and subsidiary tasks, using a DSLR camera helped me to capture images and videos in vivid detail, therefore contributing to their authentic feel. I was able to experiment with the focus of the camera and the zoom function let me capture the exact frame I envisioned without having to change my position. I also used a tripod which often proved to be very useful at creating still, steady shots.

• My iPhone was surprisingly helpful in the research and planning stages of my project. I often used it to view music videos in preparation of analysis, additionally I could conduct a focus group interview in a casual setting without the use of a high tech video camera.

Websites/social media:

• General websites and social media played a significant role in the audience research, exhibition and marketing aspects of my production. The blogging website Wix was very beneficial in terms of displaying the progression of my product and where the ideas for my tasks originated from. It gave me access to complete creative control by offering an extensive range of backgrounds, fonts and colours which encouraged me to exhibit my work in a clear, structured manner. It gave me the opportunity to include videos, audio, PowerPoint/Prezi presentations and therefore was the ideal platform to show the range of mediums involved in the production of my project..

Websites/social media:• Social media was extremely helpful

when obtaining responses to the questionnaires carried out in both the evaluation and planning stages of my project. If I couldn’t arrange to meet up in person with a participant - which could be a time consuming and maybe even expensive endeavour – I had the ability to easily communicate with them via the internet. Plus social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook allowed me to exhibit my music video on a platform that would provoke an immediate response. When I needed direct feedback on my music video (for the evaluation stage) I could ask someone directly via the internet, once again avoiding time consuming and unnecessary means of questioning them. Unlike a structured questionnaire that would require people to tick boxes on paper in order to provide quantifiable data, I could receive the participants personal, detailed opinions online.

Websites/social media:

• Slide share simply offered me the chance to convert my power points in to a format that would be suitable for Wix. Power points are a more interesting way of displaying information, therefore I could present my findings in a variety of ways that would be more appealing to viewers than large bodies of text. Slide share worked to my advantage in the research and evaluation aspects of my project.

Websites/social media:

• YouTube was essential in exhibiting my product in a manner that would be easily available to anyone who was interested in watching it. It could potentially allow me to obtain further feedback with the comments section and like/dislike option. Clearly YouTube was necessary particularly in the research stage of my project, it shows thousands of music videos from a plethora of genres so I could choose the ones most relatable to my initial mind map to analyse. It also provided a platform for me to display any videos created for the purpose of evaluation and self assessment, I could show my response to the evaluation questions in a way that would engage viewers rather than mundane text.
