DESCRIPTION
iSee is an innovative new product which merges video-conferencing with interactive, virtual environments. The software operates by immersing dozens of users inside a videogame-like setting where they can move around to form different groups, converse and share content. The ‘Mevatars’ of users show their real-time video and emanate their voices. This is a key point of difference to other video conferencing platforms, which display users’ video feeds as tiles on a screen. iSee is based on the concept of mingling and designed to mimic natural conversations. You can have multiple, simultaneous conversations going on in the setting between different groups. Importantly, the user – not the system – chooses who to focus on. From an education and training perspective, this makes it easier for students to interact with their peers, which is one of the key elements missing from online education tools. Teachers have the ability, for example, to post slides and content on virtual whiteboards, break students into groups and then wander around listening to discussions and providing feedback. Meanwhile, students can meet, interact, share ideas and collaborate with each other. The good news is that iSee requires at least 70 per cent less bandwidth to operate than other video-conferencing systems.
