The slides about what we’ve done…
Sprint Teams
• We created teams of people from across the business to focus on an area of customer/digital innovation.
Sprints and OKRs
• Sprints:• At CIPD, each sprint is 90 days during which we aim to achieve
a set of challenging objectives. Work is allocated to sprint team members who use team sites for daily work and to track progress. At the end of 90 days we review our achievements and start the next sprint.
• Objective and Key Results (OKRs)
A word about OKRs
Sprint Inductions 2015
They discipline thinking (the
major goals will surface)
Communicates accurately (lets everyone know
what is important)
Establishes indicators for
measuring progress
(shows how far along we are)
Focuses effort(keeps
organisation in step with each other)
Sprint Teams and Roles
Sprint teams consist of a team leader and 4 roles (which can be undertaken by more than one person). These roles provide a way for the team to organise itself, however it is not uncommon for team members to informally fulfil a number of roles without even being aware of it!
• Team Leader• The Communicator• The Project Manager• The Catalyst• The Sense Checker
Sprint Teams and Roles – examples of responsibilities
The Team Leader• Leading each team from the front driving momentum
• Ensuring the team (including themselves) are contributing to achievement of the key results
• Keeping the objectives alive and the end game in sight
The Communicator• Leading by example and promoting Working Out Loud amongst the project group
• Asking for help from other groups, people or skills around the business to prevent silos and drawing on shared experience
• Prompting shared and efficient communication
Sprint Teams and Roles – examples of responsibilities
The Project Manager• Working with the team to shape appropriate tasks
• Keeping the team on track and ensuring completion of tasks
• Risk management e.g.. Identify team v program risks, coming up with resolutions and sharing wider programmatic risks with team leaders prompting mitigation
The Catalyst• Identifying, sharing and accelerating learning
• Coach and share their knowledge with others inside and outside the team
• Where they don't know the answers, they know where they can find them
The Sense Checker• Bringing to bear an appreciation towards barriers and resistance but not being the barrier themselves!
• Using what they know about the business to ensure activities build on the experience held
• Help to point the team in the general direction of others who can help
Working out Loud
80% finished is good enough

What do people say about WORKSPACE?
The opportunity to get involved in cross team projects. Hearing about things as they happen makes it much easier to collaborate!Branch Executive
Good to find all the latest news in one place, helping prevent clogging up inboxes...Projects Executive
#Workspace has helped me to feel more connected to a wider group of people around CIPD and has reinforced my belief that everyone has knowledge and insight to contribute on important topics such as our purpose, our customers and, err, how the tables are arranged in the canteen!Director
As a CIPD employee who typically works remotely it's a great tool to feel "connected" to the office environment. It is also excellent for networking and understanding colleagues roles & department and generally what’s "going on" within CIPD.Manager
