HOW TO INSTALL AND SETUP WORDPRESS MULTISITE NETWORK

What?
● Sinse WordPress 3.0● Create multiple virtual sites to share a single
WordPress installationo Sub-domains — a domain-based network (http://site.domain.gr) o Sub-directories — a path-based network (http://www.domain.gr/site)
● Similar to WordPress.com (37.000.000Sites)● Sites Created on demand by:
o Administratoro Users
Pros?
● Create multiple virtual websites from one WordPress installation.
● Network Update (Wordpress, Themes, Plugins).● Different domains on every network site.● Users can be shared across many websites. ● Grant access to users to create their own websites.
Cons?
● Some plugins do not work with Multisite.● Individual site admins access:
o They can’t add remove plugins & themeso There is no access to files (Theme & Plugins)
● Network Update : Every change affects all sites. ● More memory per page than a standalone site.● Single database.
Steps? 5 or 6. It’s up to you.
● Decide if you need multisite● Prepeare your installation● Pray :)● Allow Multisite● Install the network● Enable the network
Prepeare Installation
● backup your database and files.● Verify that Pretty Permalinks work.● Also deactivate all active plugins.
If you plan to run WordPress out of its own directory, do that before activating Multisite.
Allow Mutlisite
Edit wp-config.php
Install the Network
Administration->Tools->
Network Setup
Subdomains on Plesk
● Add CNAME record on domain Name like *.domain.gr to domain.gr
● Create subdomain with name *.domain.gr and use the same folder as domain name
