HSF (Hierarchical File System ) is a file system developed by Apple Inc. It is the main file system used in Mac computers or other various PC. The iPod digital media player also uses this file system. Some advance features of HFS are, it replace flat folder structure with catalog file which uses B-tree structure to organize file, folders and directories stored in a volume, unique file ID’s, etc. At the beginning, HFS was designed to work on floppy, CD-ROMs and hard disk drives. HFS is referred as a standard for Mac Operating System and the successor of HFS i.e. HFS Plus is also known as HFS Extended.

Why it is necessary to create partition of hard drive?Hard disk partition can be defined as an act of dividing the hard disk drive into multiple logical storage units. Many partitions on a single hard drive appears as separate drives to the operating system. Hard drive partition is nothing but splitting up of hard drive memory space into different parts. Part of the drive is treated by the operating system as an independent logical storage area. Different file systems can be used on each partition. Thus, the entire files in the hard drive will not be of risk in that way. Hard disk partitioning allows the user to manage the data in efficient way; they can save all their data according to the type of data.

Major reasons that lead to the deletion of partition:• Accidental deletion: Most commonly faced issue by users across the globe;

frequently user gets into problem due to their own mistake because they may accidentally delete the partition while organizing the hard drive partitions. • File system conversion- You may find somewhat difficulty during conversion of

partition file system from one file system to another. For example HFS to NTFS you may lose data from your partitions.• Hard drive partition corruption- Hardware or software issues, improper

formatting or re-formatting of the hard drive partition, , corruption of file system, abrupt system shut down malfunctioning of the OS these all lead to corruption of partitions as no data can be accessed from the corrupt hard drive.

• Supports recovery of partitions from hard drives such as PATA, SATA, ATA, IDE and SCSI.• Restore lost or deleted partitions for the Mac operating systems like Mac OS X Lion,

Snow Leopard, Leopard.• It is capable of retrieving files from different brands of hard disk drives like Seagate,

Western Digital, Hitachi, Toshiba, Samsung, etc.• Supports to restore partitions from different file system such as FAT, HFS, and NTFS.• Ability to recover lost or deleted data which is occurred due to boot sector corruption

or corruption of file allocation system.• Restores the data which is lost as a result of software failure, accidentally deletion of

files and folders, accidental partition formatting.
