Content

• Development

• Advantages

• Usage

• Example of data aggregation and visualization

Development

• The pre-assessor was developed by André Blonk from Tauw, and

used in various Tauw projects

• The iMOD-version was developed by André Blonk and Peter

Vermeulen

• To be released in new iMOD version

Advantages

• Water balances per budget term, time step and layer

• Water balances for multiple zones with option to save

fluxes between zones

• Extensive options for data aggregation and

visualization

• Generating illustrative plots with (average) fluxes in

zones

Usage

• Generating water balance can be done in iMOD GUI

and iMOD batch (calculations can be time consuming)

• Visualization of water balances in iMOD GUI

• Postprocessing water balance data can be done in

Excel, R, Python, etc…

Visualization total waterbalance

Total time period, all budget terms, all model layers (9)

Visualization waterbalance: data aggregation

Budget terms: flux field, storage, wells

Layers 6-9

Qwel = Qflowfield+dS

Visualization waterbalance: data aggregation

One average value per decade (10 days)

Visualization waterbalance: data aggregation

Time period 2002, flow terms grouped into lateral and

vertical budgets

Visualization waterbalance: data aggregation

Flowfield grouped into single budget term

Visualization waterbalance: data aggregation

Flowfield combined to net budget

Imbalance ?

Visualization waterbalance: data aggregation

Added Metaswap budget (irrigation unsaturated zone)

Qwel = Qflowfield+dS+Qcap

Visualization waterbalance: illustrative plot

Illustrative plots average water balance

Summarizing

• Powerful tool to better understand the groundwater

system and/or model

• All generated data summarized in csv-file, which can

be post-processed

• Various aggregation options to better interpret

generated data

• Various visualization options to fit usage and user

preferences
