Cross|Over – MarketPlace and WorkSmart case study
• Andy had recently taken on a 105-person team that costs $5 million a year to operate. To keep track of his employees, Andy puts his new team on WorkSmart so that their time and activities can be measured.
• Andy assigns a metric, for example, number of tickets closed or number of widgets sold per week.
• WorkSmart then runs and gathers data in the background while each person is working. Analyzing the data, Andy discovered that the average productivity per person each week was around 2 (2 being the average of the custom metric that he had set).
• Andy could also see his team’s performance and separate the top 80% from the lower performing 20%.
• The very top performer on his team now shares his calendar in team meetings so that other team members are able to replicate it and match their activities to that of the highest performer.
• Based on this data, Andy can identify the weaker members from the original group of 105 people and make cuts if needed. At the same time, by matching everyone’s activities and calendar to the highest performer, he’s able to increase productivity and the team is more efficient at a lower cost.
• Andy expects that by the end of Q1, their overall spending will be reduced by 20% and they will have an average productivity of 3.1 / person – a 50% increase in productivity and 20% cost reduction all within ONE MONTH of using WorkSmart.
Cross|Over – case study 1 WorkSmart
• Automated UI test cases development – Aditya Datta
• Before WorkSmart - Cost: $1,800 per test case
• Time to develop: Greater than 3 months with a significant amount of quality issues
• After WorkSmart - Cost: $28 per test case
• Time to develop: 5 days; the quality has improved and the number of issues in the produce have reduced
• Using WorkSmart, Aditya looks at the activities in which people on his team are spending their time. He can then deduce which activity indicates productive work or not. He can determine the areas that need automation and innovation and map this out, creating a new activity plan as a baseline and driving results against that. Maximizing productivity is an iterative process.
• A simple example. A job description may be to do prototyping but feedback from WorkSmart shows that you’re actually spending 6 hours in R&D and only 2 hours prototyping. By reversing this (2 hours R&D and 6 hours prototyping) you can then calculate productivity increase.
• WorkSmart allows you to identify the productivity gaps, tweak and experiment with them, and increase overall productivity and efficiency.
Cross|Over – WorkSmart case study 2
• From 100% Skype to Support System
• Aditya had a case where they discovered that one of their Level 3 Network Engineers was spending 50% of his time on Skype handling support escalations. Not an efficient use of his time or expertise.
• “We closed out that gap” said Aditya. Now he gets support tickets in the ticketing system, and not Skype, and the tickets are prioritized. Level 1 support tickets no longer go to him, and he can focus on providing Level 3 support issues.
• So now his day looks like this:
• Level 1 – 0Level 2 – 20%Level 3 – 80%
• Level 1 tickets are now routed internally via the ticketing system and his time is maximized, producing great results and he is much happier not to have to address Level 1 issues inefficiently.
