Joomla!: out of the gameJoomla! has its spot a few years ago when WordPress was still being short for everything that was more than a

blog. However, considering the actual possibilities of WordPress, now it doesnt even result serious to even consider Joomla as an alternative. The mistake of Joomla! was in its conception. Intending to allow that anybody with little technical knowledge could do almost everything from the control panel and with some mouse clicks. And of course, this is impossible. This has become a chaotic code, that converts into hell the existance of a developer that intends to implement a custom design or functionality. Not to mention the constant and serious security failures (specially in its extensions) or the problems and difficulties that carry some updates.

Documentation? Doesn't exist, so everything is based in many tests and errors and visits to populated forums with answers from pseudo-technicians who usually are more lost than the person who comes searching for help.

In favor of Joomla! we have clients that in its special circumstances make of Joomla! the perfect solution

Weak points?• Joomla Disadvantages• Built-in performance pretty sluggish/clunky.• Horrid built-in URLs.• Weak weblog section.• Hard to theme. A Mambo/Joomla site looks like Mambo/Joomla, like it or not.• Crappy built-in SEO. Leading SEO plugin belongs to a very peculiar developer and is encrypted (have fun

repairing the SEO plugin, we reverse engineered and decrypted it for our site to make our changes even after paying for it).

• Nasty, nasty core code. Very difficult to fix broken items.• Fractured community (never healed after Joomla/Mambo split back in 2006).• Most good plugins are pay.• Rather mediocre developers. Anyone who likes to code in Joomla/Mambo in 2011 ought to see a psychiatrist.• Developer pricing is all over the map as there are many old-school Mambo/Joomla developers still ought

there churning out convoluted future-resistant code quite affordably.

¿Where is Joomla today?

Page 7: Crisis Times. Turn Joomla into a job opportunity

Who is Who

• WordPress has behind the company Automattic, Joomla has the Open Source Matters Association. Both base their development in “the community”. They both base their growth in “the community”. They both use open licenses and their code is open source. Their both a good product technically and functionally.

• “The community” of Joomla users denies the companies as members of the same. The community of WordPress is proud that each day more companies support the project. In fact, the capital of more than 300 million US dollars that Automattic has proceeds from companies like New York Times, Tiger Global invested or CNET Networks.

Joomla is just the means…
