Laptop Stolen, Future Violent Crime Planned? Just last month, an Apple MacBook Pro was stolen from a home during a burglary. As if this weren't distressing enough, the victim found a backpack hidden in her closet; inside, there was a weapon, a Scream-like mask, duct tape and zip ties. I think that would freak anyone out! Why was it there? Did the burglar put it there?

During the course of the investigation by local police and by the Absolute Investigations and Recovery Team, the customer ran across a listing of her stolen laptop on Craigslist and recognized the phone number provided in the listing. The phone number belonged to a friend she had known for several years. The customer believes, and police concur, that the suspect was aware that LoJack for Laptops was installed on the computer, which is why he attempted to sell it without first using it.

Local police used this information to confront the suspect, recover the stolen laptop and press charges. It turns out, the suspect has a record for crimes including burglary, robbery, sexual assault and falsifying a police report.

Had the sale of the computer gone forward unnoticed by the victim, the new buyer would presumably have begun using the laptop, allowing us to track them down and to collaborate with police to find the seller - such a process would have taken more time. We are relieved that the crime was solved before further crimes could be committed.

It is not unusual for our investigations to lead to intelligence on related criminality. Our investigations have led to additional charges in parole violations, robbery, burglary, child pornography, counterfeiting, firearms / narcotics possessions, and murder. Not only are we recovering laptops, we are helping get criminals off the street. We love our job!
