A Story Behind the Conference,or How pgDay Asia was born
Satoshi Nagayasu
pgDay Asia 2016 | Singapore
Who Am I?
A Few Years Ago...• I was working as chairperson of Japan
PostgreSQL Users Group.
• I just started thinking of new PostgreSQL conference for the people, mainly coming from Asian countries...
Why?• Wanted to introduce PostgreSQL to the Asian
people.
• Wanted to introduce Asia to the PostgreSQL community.
• Obviously, itʼs worth involving Asian communities and people, but going to Ottawa & Europe is not easy thing for the Asian people.
“Can we make it?”
“I have no idea...”
What could I do at that time?
• Just nothing.
• Because I was not familiar with Asian countries and communities.
What did I do at that time?• Just started inviting from Asia.
• Just started traveling around Asia.
• To find the people.
• To know the people.

We made it!We made it!
Itʼs safe to say thatAsian PostgreSQL communities are
able to runpan-Asian conference
once a year.
And alsoFLOSS communities can
help PostgreSQL communities,
and vise versa.
Running conferences isa really tough job.
I canʼt thank Sameer morefor his help
while I was spending an extreme busy & tough time.
Thanks toSameer, Bruce, Nikhil, the team, Ashnik people, and all the people who helped
us make this happen.
And of course, thanks toFOSSASIA organizers,
Hong Phuc Dang,Mario Behling
andJustin Lee
Special Thanks:
Mami Kurokawa(Web site design & coding)
Most importantly,

All the attendees
Whatʼs next?
