Lutz, Daily & Brain, LLCConsulting Engineers

2003 first exposure to AVEVA PDMS

Through Kvaerner on a 63.4 MW power plant project

2004 first PDMS project

Why PDMS?

Impressive Capabilities

Project requirements

Transitional growing pains

Executed a successful project

Throughout the process we began to understand the

advantages PDMS made available

Visualization Most plant personnel not apart of design meetings

○ Need on site, not in the conference room

○ Their interactions with the design contribute to the projects success or failure

Evaluate and narrow options early in the design process

Lutz, Daily & Brain, LLCConsulting Engineers

“With equipment, conduit, and piping completely laid out before the project, we were able to visualize placement of the entire project including walk paths before a single weld was ever made”

“Coordinating the existing plant with the future equipment, we were able to utilize in-house labor to move or remove obstructions before it was delivered on site. This minimized the cost of outsourced labor and allowed the plant to schedule any interruptions of service to times that least affected our customers”

“Allowed coordination between disciplines such as equipment installer, structural workers, electricians, plumbers, insulation installers, and painters resulting in the overall process of the installation become more fluid”

“If changes in plans were required, the 3D model could be used to work ahead of the on-site contractor to limit extra costs and time requirements”

“With every angle and length accurately measured, fabrication of piping mostly occurred at the fab shop resulting in higher quality welds, cleaner pipe, and the safety of working on the ground versus 30 feet in the air cannot be over-emphasized”

“Allowed plant personnel to visualize the future and the long-term goal resulting in higher levels of motivation and increased productivity”
