7 on a Shoestring Goes #DigitallyDark

We recently asked several bloggers to do without their mobile device for 2 days to simulate what it’s like to experience mobile phone theft. In the LoJack #DigitallyDark challenge, Staci of 7 on a Shoestring shares what the hardest parts of the experience were:

The hardest thing for me to get used to without my phone is the ability to check my emails. I am always looking at my email. In my job, I am afraid I will miss an opportunity. Some of them are time sensitive or participant limited, so I check my emails constantly so I will not miss out. Not being able to have easy access to my email everywhere I went was difficult.

The impaction her business was immediate, as was the impact on her social life. As is common with many of us “socially introverted” people, our friends do live for us on places like Facebook or Twitter, so that disconnection is disconcerting. And then there’s the direct impact on the family of not being able to capture so many memories with photos and videos!

As Staci so rightfully points out, her #DigitallyDark challenge didn’t involve the stress of permanently losing photos or data and she was able to choose when she went #DigitallyDark. In real cases of theft, we are stripped of our choice. It’s a very exposed feeling.

Thanks Staci for sharing your #DigitallyDark story!
