What You Need To Set Up A Website To Sell Your Videos, Audios or Training Online
While a site like this can be build in many different ways, we're going to give you the best outline for making this efficiently and cost-effectively--even if you have no experience with websites.
There are 7 main parts to build this, which we will describe here: - domain name - hosting account - Wordpress - OptimizePress theme for Wordpress - Digital Access Pass for membership functionality (only if you're going to have recurring payments and want someadditional features for billing and length of access) - shopping cart software: Paypal, 1ShoppingCart, Infusionsoft, etc. - hosting service for your large media files, like AmazonS3 or Vimeo or Wistia
1 Domain Name
This is the URL of your website, what people will type in to find you online. You can purchase this from GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc. (approx $12/year)
2 Hosting
This storage space on a server where you will store your website files for people to find online. You can purchase this from Bluehost, Hostgator, GoDaddy, etc. (approx $84/year)
3 WordPress
This is the platform that you will build your site on, like the site skeleton. This comes free as a feature with almost all hosting accounts. It's usually installed by accessing your hosting control panel.
4OptimizePress theme for Wordpress
this is a theme with a bunch of page templates readily available for you to use as soon as you purchase and install to Wordpress (www.optimizepress.com). It's like a website in a box.
There are templates for your homepage, blog pages, sales pages, membership area pages, landing pages with a video and an email opt-in box to build your mailing list, etc. You can use them as is (they look great as they are) or you can customize with your colors, logo, etc. This is $97.
OptimizePress has an easy-to-use Visual Editor so you can click-and-drag your page elements around as you want them.
If you have a one-time purchase of your products or programs, you can use OptimizePress to sync with your shopping cart (like Paypal) and no need for additional membership software.
5 Digital Access PassIf you are going to set up different membership products with recurring payments or limited time access, want to protect your entire blog area or other options, you may want to purchase Digital Access Pass.
It is specifically created for membership functionality, and can work in combination with OptimizePress. However, you may not need it if you are creating something where a person purchases once and then gets lifetime access to a member area to download or get information. For that you can just use OptimizePress. You can check it out here: http://www.digitalaccesspass.com. It's $167.
6 Shopping cart software
Shopping cart software: this will sync with OptimizePress or Digital Access Pass to give people the ability to check out and send you money for their purchase of your product or program.
You can use Paypal (no monthly fee, just 3% of each purchase) or shopping cart services like 1ShoppingCart ($35/month) or Infusionsoft ($199/month).
7 Shopping cart software
Finally, if you have big files, you will need to host them somewhere so you don't slow down your website. You can use AmazonS3 for media files (pay per GB as people watch or listen to your files) or Vimeo or Wistia for video files (their services give your videos mobile display capability so they play on all devices).
Vimeo.com is $200/year for Vimeo Pro for business, and Wistia is $240/year for their basic plan when you pay annually.
