3 Tips for Successful Inbound
Marketing for Direct Sellers
Source: Direct Selling Association Industry Statistics
Direct sales is $31+ billion dollar industry across the globe with 15.9 million active
distributors in the U.S. alone.* So how do you keep your business in front of
potential customers and prospects without turning them off with a constant feed of
“join my team, buy my stuff?”
Direct sellers who use social media successfully share valuable content on the
platforms they engage on. It’s important to keep your networks up to date on the
latest product specials and sign up offers but it’s just as if not more important to
establish yourself as a genuine relationship marketer. So how do you do this?
POST USEFUL INFORMATION that doesn’t ask your audience to buy something or make an investment. Lifestyle tips, articles, images and videos are fantastic.
LISTEN! Don’t just post stuff and expect people to flock to you for advice or a product. Is anyone frustrated because they hate their boss? Does anyone want to lose weight? Is anyone interested in hosting
a party? Listen for referrals for other companies. Help each other out.
THE GOLDEN RULE: Post more, pitch less. Establish yourself as an expert in your product line and your audience will be more receptive to business offers.
A lot of Direct Sellers avoid social media
because they don’t know what to post.
I don’t personally advise anyone to spend
hours looking for or creating content. It’s
counterproductive and not good use of your
time. You should be focusing on doing what
you do best — booking parties and building
your team.
One of my favorite sayings is “Activity doesn’t
equal productivity. Choose your tasks wisely.”
So how do you get around this?
Here’s an insider secret directly from your
Corporate Office to get around this
dilemma…
FOLLOW Your Corporate Office Social Media Accounts.Every single day your Corporate Office posts all sorts
of content with useful information that doesn’t end with
a sales pitch. Simply “share” or “retweet” with your
networks to help you keep you and your business up
front and center.
If you haven’t already done so, go “Like” or “Follow”
these accounts and check in regularly. An easy way to
find them is by going to the corporate website. Most
companies link all their social media accounts from the
homepage.
GET NOTIFICATIONS on FacebookFacebook is pretty rough on companies lately… at least when it comes to showing organic
content in news feeds. But they have a great feature that alerts you every time your Corporate
Office posts. Simply go to the company page, hover over “Liked” and select “Get
Notifications.” It’s one of my favorite Facebook features.
PARTING THOUGHT…
“WE DON’T HAVE A CHOICE ON WHETHER WE DO SOCIAL MEDIA, THE QUESTION IS HOW WELL WE DO IT.”
