Question 7- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

In comparison to my preliminary task the completed full task shows more skills and overall follows more codes and conventions. This is because of a number of reasons. In preparation for producing the final products I was able to annotate more professional music magazines.

Looking at the music magazine front cover I have been able to improve all aspects of what is included on most magazine front covers. My masthead for the music magazine stands out significantly more through the use of unique fonts, bigger sizing and a more fitting colour scheme. The main image on the front cover is much more suited, being more dominant and relating more to the type of magazine. The coverlines used and displayed on the front cover of my preliminary task are very weak, only having a fraction of what should be on there and having an incorrect colour scheme makes the coverlines not at all stand out from the background or the sublines. The barcode on my final product of my music magazine front cover is much stronger, displaying a date, price and issue number. The final front cover has a stronger positioning statement and also has added conventions such as a puff.

When comparing the two contents pages it is evident which one has been produced after more research and evaluation of other music magazine contents pages. The final contents page is much more professional in terms of both its structure and its layout. I believe that after using quark once for my first preliminary task I was able instantly known the basics for producing my final contents page. This meant that I could make the overall contents page look simple and have a better layout. The colour scheme is continued from the front cover in my final products, however in the preliminary tasks the front cover and contents page follow two different colour schemes, neither of which carry good enough potential for the type of magazine and don't favour the coverlines or sublines.
