Question 7- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Final product Preliminary Task

Photos:In the process of making the full product I have learned the different types of images and what images are most suitable for certain situations. I have learned many different camera shots such as Full Face, Close up, Medium Close up, Tilt Shot, Mid-Range shot and many others. This has helped me take much better images for my final product compared to the images I told in my preliminary task. I knew what camera shots would stand out better and make my rap group look more masculine.

Layout:In the process I feel like the way I laid out my music magazine had improved as well. I learned not to cover the faces of my artists with titles or headlines. This way it can show the audience what the main focus on the front cover is. This was much better in the final product than my preliminary task as in the preliminary task I covered the main person’s face with the headlines and the masthead. I was able to learn from this mistake and make sure that I make the main image stand out to show the audience what the main focus is.

I feel like since I have been using Photoshop to create my final product, my knowledge of using the software has widely improved since using Photoshop for my preliminary task. I have learned how to effectively crop out parts of images using the Quick Selection Tool rather than using the Magic Wand. This enabled me to crop out parts of images a lot more accurately and neatly so that I could using them on my front cover. This helped me put my rap group on my front cover in front of the graffiti background. This also meant that I could place them forward to make sure that no headlines or mastheads were taking the focus of the front cover away from

Photoshop Skills:Further on in Photoshop I have also learned how to use effects on images. For my background on the front cover I made it black and white so that it would make the colour in the images and the text stand out more to the audience. This then made the main focus of the front cover stand out to the audience. Whereas with I created my preliminary task I did not use any effects on the background meaning that the front cover looked bland and boring. By learning how to use effects on images it has allowed me to make the front cover less boring and more vibrant for the audience, which means that they are more likely to be interested in purchasing my final product.
