Condition Of WomenThe condition of women was very

miserable at that time. namely. About 8,000 criminal cases registered all over India related to the violence on women in states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. Rajasthan had 3440 cases, Kerala had 1,028 cases, while Punjab had 172 cases registered. It created a very shameful scene for the whole country.

The Act Of 2005The Protection of Women from

Domestic Violence (PWDV) Act of India was enacted to protect women from domestic violence. It was brought into force by the Indian government from October 26, 2006. The Act was passed by the Parliament in August 2005 and assented to by the President on 13 September 2005.

Duties of shelter homes If an aggrieved person or on her

behalf a Protection Officer or a service provider requests the person in charge of a shelter home to provide shelter to her, such person in charge of the shelter home shall provide shelter to the aggrieved person in the shelter home.

Duties of police officers, service providers and Magistrate:- Police officer , Protection Officer, service provider or Magistrate who has received a complaint of domestic violence shall inform the aggrieved person-of her right to make an application for obtaining a relief by way of a protection order, an order for monetary relief, a custody order, a residence order, a compensation order

Duties of medical facilities:-In charge of a medical facility will provide behalf of an aggrieved person or, on her behalf a Protection Officer or a service provider requests the person medical aid to her, such person in charge of the medical facility shall provide medical aid to the aggrieved person in the medical facility.

Appointment of Protection Officers.-The State Government shall appoint such number of Protection Officers in each district as it may consider necessary and shall also notify the area or areas within which a Protection Officer shall exercise the powers and perform the duties conferred on him by or under this Act .

Features Of This ActOne of the most important features of

the Act is the woman’s right to secure housing. The Act provides for the woman’s right to reside in the matrimonial or shared household, whether or not she has any title or rights in the household. This right is secured by a residence order, which is passed by a court. These residence orders cannot be passed against anyone who is a woman.

United nations high commissioner for refuge (UNHCR) is a very successful committee which was established in 14 december,1950 for the preservation of respect of women . It was very successful in it’s mission . It’s headquarter is in geneva, switzerland it is headed by Antonio Guterres . It has also won two noble peace price . Today UNHCR is also established in India .
