Ask yourself these 4 quesXons before posXng an update on social media: -‐ Will my family be embarrassed? -‐ Am I posXng to see if someone will make me feel
beCer about my choices? -‐ Am I posXng to hurt someone? -‐ Could this post be used against me someday?
ASK YOURSELF FIRST…
GENERAL SAFETY TIPS
• If you see someone else doing something on a social app that concerns you, talk to someone you trust to see how you can help them.
• Don’t ever impersonate another person in the social world. • Only add friends you know in real life. • Use a nickname that doesn‘t idenXfy your locaXon, gender, or age. • Never give out your phone, address, personal or financial informaXon online or in a post.
• Never meet in person with anyone you first met online. • Don’t post your plans or whereabouts. • Write down your password someone you won’t forget every Xme you change it!
• Don’t click on links from people you do not know (email or online). • Don’t download any “free” stuff (free games, ring tones or other downloads)
• Don’t let your friends have access to your devices-‐ keep your passwords to yourself.
INSTAGRAM SETTINGS
Se>ngs: • The only informaXon required when signing up for Instagram is an email address and desired username.
• Phone number should not be listed. • Click Edit Profile and scroll down to the boCom and turn on: “Photos are private” Geotagging: • When uploading a photo, the geo-‐locaXon data of the photo can easily be shared with your followers if you are not careful.
• When uploading a photo, be sure to avoid tapping the buCon to share locaXon. • In your phone’s se>ngs (not Instagram), turn locaXon services off by going To “privacy” and then “locaXon services”. • If you accidentally approve a follower you don’t want, you can block them so they can’t follow you anymore.
TWITTER SETTINGS
• Account: • Username: Uncheck the box “let others find me by my email address” • Tweet LocaXon: Do not share your locaXon when tweeXng • Tweet Media: Make sure both boxes are not checked • Tweet Privacy: Click this box to protect tweets and you will have to accept someone before they can see your tweets.
• PersonalizaXon: I suggest you check this box as it requires personal informaXon to reset your password. Since there are a lot of people hacking TwiCer accounts, this will protect you further.
• Password Reset: Check this box to require personal informaXon to reset password. • Profile:
• Photo: Do not use a photo of yourself • LocaXon & Website: Not necessary to list • Bio: This is a place to add 160 characters about yourself. Make sure what you list is appropriate and not sharing too much info.
• Apps: Review apps and “revoke access” for any that are not needed
YOUTUBE SETTINGS
• Turn on “Safety Mode”. This screens out potenXally objecXonable content that you don’t want to see.
• Block users will stop them from making comments on your videos and they can’t message you privately. You can block someone on their “About” tab by clicking on the flag icon.
• Make sure when you upload a video you change it’s privacy se>ng as it defaults to “public”. Visit your “video manager” and edit each video and change the privacy se>ngs to either “unlisted” or “private”.

• Turn off the “Address Book Matching” feature so people can’t find you unXl you choose to share your KiK name with your friend(s).
• If you leave the “Auto-‐Add on Reply” feature turned on, you will be automaXcally starXng a conversaXon with your friends once you’ve been matched with them.
• A text only Kik message uses about 1-‐2KB and a picture messages uses 50-‐100KB when not on wifi.
