MandolinA mandolin is an instrument related to country music. Therefore this would be a suitable title as it reflects upon the magazine as being about country music

HarmonyThis would have relevance as all music contains harmonies, as well as having a double meaning of peace which relates to the countryside.

CincinnatiCincinnati is located in the United States, this is a suitable name for the magazine because the US is largely related to country music, the music genre I want to create my magazine for. However, this magazine would be distributed in the UK and thus would not be a suitable name for the magazine.

CMStands for country music so is suitable because it directly names the music genre of the magazine.

SubmergeThis title would suggest that the reader would become submerged into the magazine. However this isn’t a suitable title as the word ‘submerge’ has no generic relation to music.

HeartlandThis is a suitable name because ‘land’ relates to the countryside and heart suggests that everything in the magazine is true and from the heart.

GoldenThis would be a suitable name because the colour golden is related to the countryside.

JoysThis name would be suitable because it is suggesting that it is a joy to read this magazine. However, this title has no contextual links to country music and therefore would not be a suitable title.

Mandolin CMMandolin CM is a suitable title for my country music magazine because all of the words

MCMMCM stands for Mandolin Country Music – this is a good title because all of the words are related to country music, thus the potential reader would instantly know what the music genre is about from just seeing the title.

Initial Ideas For Titles

Page 4: Initial ideas and Proposal Sheet

Target audience: (age range, interests)

My target audience is people who enjoy listening to country and western music.

Possible title ideas: (masthead / title block)What is your magazine going to be called?

My magazine is going to be called ‘Mandolin CM’ – Mandolin being a highly appreciated musical instrument in country and western music and CM standing for country music.

Main image:What will be the focal point of your front page, remember, your work

As my front cover I would like to have a girl sitting under a tree holding a guitar as if she is playing it. I want to have this style of image as my man image because the acoustic guitar is a main element that generally symbolises country and Western music and so fits with my genre.

Main cover line:What will be the main story?

The main cover story will be an interview with a new and popular music artist that is from the country and western music genre in order to appeal to my target audience.

Additional key images:What other images will be on your front cover?

On my front cover I would like to have a smaller picture of a group of people who are a potential new music band or harmonising group.

Additional cover lines:Other features, stories or selling points which will be inside the magazine, these need to be audience appropriate.

Articles about new album releases and what he songs entail.Information about upcoming tour datesSmall interviews about new songs and ideas with smaller scale artists

Typography: (style, size, colour of copy)Think about the writing and the style of the writing on your front page.

ScriptMTBold Grey coloured writing

Background colour/image:What will be in the background, remember you don’t want to take the focus away from the main image.

The background colour will be light blue because the colour blue reflects country music as it’s a calming and mellow colour just as the genre of music is calm and mellow. The main image of a girl with a guitar will be the main background image also so not to take any focus away from it being the main image. However, there might be a countryside look to the background, for example trees or fields.

Technical considerations:(equipment, setting, props, costume, lighting)Be realistic and creative, think about what you have access to and how you could use it.

My main image will include a naturalistic setting that is easily accessible to me because there is natural light and settings all around. The main prop will be a guitar and I would like for my artist to be dressed in a check shirt and denim jeans/dungarees and potentially a country style hat.

Double Page Spread:(what will be the main article in your magazine?)This will need to be the main story on your cover, what detail will be featured inside?

My double page spread will be an interview of a popular artist about themselves but also about their new album that they are releasing and what inspired them to write the songs on the album. There will also be pictures of them on the double page spread so that people know who the article is about if they are not sure who the artist it.
