In an instrumented, interconnected, intelligent world, data is at the heart of any transformation, and IBM knows how to handle them - WE ARE WELL PREPARED
1 trillionconnected objects and devices on the planet generating
data by 2015
… Providing the key to interoperability, integration, system orchestration and competitive advantage
2.5 billiongigabytes of data generated every day
80%of the world’s data is unstructured. Audio. Video. Sensor data. Social media. All new areas to mine for insights
IBM Intelligent Energy
“Synergy of the largest charge points installation and service company and Global IT player”
“Provide branded apps and portals to cities”
“Sharing IBM’s Smart City vision”
“Continue collaboration in other areas:mobility, video surveillance, public service platforms, streets and smart lighting, smart grids”
In 2015 SPIE contracted IBM to use its platform for electric mobility and smart city services
Highlights of the SPIE-IBM partnership:

In California IBM demonstrated cloud based intelligence and direct platfrom to vehicle communications for smart charging with PG&E and Honda
Business challenge:
• The intelligence needed to effectively integrate EVs will
require both grid data and vehicle data
• Smart EVSEs and/or Smart Meters will not be ubiquitous
thus utilities and Charge Service Providers will need flexible
approaches to smart charging communication
IBM Intelligent Energy
Analytics project to understand viability of EVs participating in controlled charging services: IBM developed analytics to help automotive OEM understand load and recharging profiles for bidding services into ISO markets
Example: Analysis of charge profiles (24 hour period) Example: Charging to match solar power and ToU tariff with battery SoC
IBM Intelligent Energy
The same platform is used for aggregated monitoring of distributed generation assets and bidding into the ISO markets while addressing grid operator peaks in LV

IBM Intelligent Energy
IBM is empowering utilities to interact with and engage their customers, it is increasingly complex in the new ecosystem of intelligent devices
• The energy transition empowers the individual, from ‘consumer’ to
‘prosumer’
• Creating demand for new services with increased interaction
• Success relies on effective commmunication in a trusted dialogue with
utility customers
• The large scale roll out of smart meters will create the first wave of
increased customers interaction
• Transforming the customer experience requires a dialogue with society
and these communities
• And then move beyond the customer engagement towards
Customer Supplier Grid operator
