Cover Photo ~ Public by default

Your chosen Facebook (large) Cover Photo is public and therefore all comments by friends are able to seen by anyone who ventures to your Facebook account. Think twice about displaying personal family photos here, especially pictures of children and your home. It maybe useful to choose an Avatar. Old Cover photos can be changed to the Friends only setting.

Clicking on the dropdown tab next to View Activity Log. This will reveal a ‘View As’ tab. The View As tab shows what is on Public view on your account. The pop up will be at the top of your account. The Public Facebook World Globe

Have you noticed the Facebook World Globe? – it refers to a PUBLIC setting. Anytime you comment under a post with the World Globe setting, your comment is also public. Public Facebook comments may be found in a Facebook keyword search and may be picked up by the Google search engine.

Public Biography Info

Do you need information about your school, workplace and where you live on Public display? I would suggest this be deleted or edited to Friends only. Click on the About tab - hover over the section you want to change and an Edit tab will appear. Click into this section to change your setting from Public to Friends.

Tagging in Public

Tagging is a fantastic way of notifying a friend/s in your post. It's gives the ability to share events, posts and other things from Facebook together.  However everytime you Tag a User, your account settings technically change from 'friends' to -  'friends of friends'. If your tagged friend has an open / public Facebook account, your information is available for all to see.

Solution:  You can custom post so only the person is tagged but their friends are not included.  Go to your audience selector and instead of choosing friends, choose the Custom tab, then uncheck the 'friends of those tagged' box.
