  1. 1. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
  2. 2. In Raven one of the main social groups is the stereotype of the troubled teenager. Typically, teenagers are seen as troubled, like staying out late, going to parties with alcohol, getting involved with activities they shouldnt sometimes even illegal activities like theft or murder. Usually this is male orientated, like Marty from Mean Creek. However like Nicki from The Bling Ring, we have chosen to use a female, Raven. Nicki The Bling Ring Marty Mean Creek Raven Raven
  3. 3. The typical bad girl image is usually leather jacket, skinny jeans and such. We decided to follow this convention as Raven is seen wearing exactly that. This is similar to Nicki in the Bling Ring. This also supports the Mulveys Male Gaze theory that pretty girls are there for the male amusement. These typical outfits could appeal to the male eye.
  4. 4. Both Raven and Nicki get involved in activities that they shouldnt. In The Bling Ring, Nicki is involved in partying, smoking and thievery, as well as the use of a gun. This is similar to Raven who is involved in parties, under aged drinking which is heard in her conversation with Sienna. As well as the possible murder of her friend. They both play a delinquent youth as categorised in Brakes comparative youth theory. However, Brakes theory states they are usually male, like Marty (who gets involved with murder and smoking), in comparison to the females we used to show this theory.
  5. 5. In my opinion, Raven follows many negative stereotypes. She follows the typical troubled delinquent teenager stereotype as she gets mixed in with things she shouldn't really get involved in. However, you wouldnt use this type of character as the protagonist, as we have. We feel like following stereotypes will make the character relatable but having her as the protagonist rather than the antagonist would be a unique twist.
