4. Who would be the audience for you media product?

Audience. To find the correct audience for my magazine, I created a questionnaire on Survey Monkey, to interview the public to find out who would be the most interested. I also looked into the readerships of there magazines within the music industry to find out the averages ages, class, types of music, and other things that may be important to my magazine.

I then created a reader profile, to describe the type of person that my magazine will be aimed at:

GenderAs my magazine is aimed at the female audience I have used a female model on the front of my magazine. But due to this this also may attract some male reader, the girl on the front not only shows that it is a magazine for females, but also could reflect the interests of boys when using Laura Mulvey’s theory of the male gaze.

This is also reinforced with the other images of the girls throughout the magazine.

We can also tell from the front cover image that the female audience will be interested in the make up, hair, clothing/fashion as appearance is extremely important to my target audience. This tells us also that the magazine promotes an extremely stereotypical view of women and there interests.

AgeThe colors that I have used in my magazine are not childish but are not mature either they link to the magazine being aimed at a young adult age range. The colors represent a more sophisticated and mature reader.

The features and articles that are in the magazine suggest that it is a magazine aimed at a young adult audience. The pull out posters, the mentioning of festivals, competitions, charts etc. all of these things are aspects that an older audience would not want to read.

The font and text type that has been used throughout the magazine is rounded and slightly child like, this again aims at the younger more immature audience.

The text and image ratio is also linked to my target audience as younger audience don’t want to be bombarded with mountains of text as they will just loose interest before reading it. This is also reinforced by the amount of room that the images are taking up, this is to allow less room for text and articles. Lastly the audience becomes apparent through the type of text and language used.

Class, Lifestyle and InterestsMy magazine is priced at £2.99 and new issues are released every month. This price is cheaper than a lot of music magazines I feel this had to be done due to the younger target audience, as they do not have a lot of spare money to spend on magazines. Although some specific genres are associated with specific class, I feel as though the price of my magazine can associate with both high and lower class readers. Some of the hobbies and interests are sports, and has a active life style, interested in fashion and stereo typical female stereotypes including TV, films, TV shows etc.
