Mr. Hebbar mentioned how processes can be made effective and efficient – whether for simple processes like data flow for insurance or credit card, or for more evolved and complex processes. He mentioned that most project/product failures are due to process failures, where data doesn't get communicated or is simply lost. The focus is now on customer-centric processes where the processes are tailor-made for each customer's requirements. Creativity and Innovation are the need of the hour in order to achieve the same. Optimized processes are the need of the hour, he concluded.

SWEETSPOT

Recently we read a color spread in Star of Mysore of our Rtn. Sunil Kumar's Vinay Products and its confectionary range of products. Not only children, adults love chocolates. And contrary to popular opinion, chocolate is actually good for health. Rtn. Sunil, when can we have a visit to your works and sample all the good stuff? collective mouths are watering and sweet teeth are crying out loud...

Our

Rotary Mysore donated Rs. 5,000/= to Mr. Nagaraj, our Security staff towards medical expenses of his wife. Wish her a speedy recovery!

OPEN TO ALL ROTARIANS, ROTARACTORS, AND SPOUSES/PARTNERS OF ROTARIANS WHO SHARE AN INTEREST IN E-CLUBS.

The Rotarian E-club Fellowship (REF) was envisioned because the founders felt that there was broad and significant interest in E-Clubs throughout the Rotary world. This is the first time in the history of Rotary that a new model of club has been adopted and there are many questions and misconceptions that need to be addressed.R E F w i l l a t t e m p t t o p ro v i d e suggestions, guidelines and ideas that are needed to form new E-clubs and nurture those that have already formed. REF will have the ability to envelop its members in a “community” that understands the unique needs and problems of E-clubs. Our membership will be coming from traditional Rotary

clubs as well as E-clubs, and as they share ideas together there will be a new understanding and synergy created that will help establish friendships, partnerships and joint projects. This process of co-mingling members from traditional clubs and E-clubs will help bring E-clubs into the mainstream of Rotary. The founders of REF feel that E-Clubs are likely going to play a very big part in the future of Rotary and might eventually be able to help Rotary expand beyond the 1.2 million member mark. We believe that new generations around the world are going to be greatly attracted to this new model of Rotary club. This fellowship operates in accordance with Rotary International policy, but is not an agency of, or controlled by, Rotary International.

Rotary's Attendance Rules Revisited- a contrarian view

The 2013 Council of Legislation moved significantly toward a different approach to member retention by adopting new attendance rules for Rotary clubs that emphasize participation by members in all Five Avenues of Service, not just meeting attendance.Do you know what Rotary's new “attendance” rules require?• Attend or make up at least 50% of regular club

meetings, or• Engage in club projects for at least 12 hours in each

half of the year, or• A combination of both

What counts as a “meeting” or club projects? All official club, district, and RI activities - this can include service projects, committee meetings, club social events - pretty much almost all official club and District activities.

Treating members like customers you want to keep is the key to retaining valued members and ensuring they in turn attract new members to the club!

Trustee Chair's Message – February 2014

The last hurdleIn 1985, we made a promise. We promised that we would eradicate polio, no matter how long it took. We have never b a c ke d away f ro m t h at promise, even though the job

has been much harder, and taken much longer, than we first thought.Because of Rotary and its partners, the world has seen a 99 percent drop in the number of polio cases: from 350,000 children paralyzed every year to 223 in 2012. This progress is significant. We are now combating an outbreak of polio in the Horn of Africa. Cases of polio were found in

Syria. We all recognize that this presents a new and significant challenge to the process of eradication. The political and humanitarian situation in Syria is difficult, and responding to this outbreak will be difficult as well.We have been told many times that we cannot end polio, that we will never do it. But we know better. We will conquer this challenge, as we have conquered so many before. We will stop these new outbreaks. And we will continue to fight polio until we have reached every last child. To do all this requires tremendous resources.Right now, we have a funding gap of US$1.5 billion over the next five years. To eradicate polio, that gap must be filled. We are not alone in this fight. We will not be the only ones to help

find these new funds. This must be the responsibility of every country and every government. A polio-free world is within our grasp. All of us must be ambassadors for polio eradication. Every Rotarian should lead by example by making a donation. And we need to make sure that every Rotarian, in every Rotary club, understands that we are truly this close to ending polio – and that every Rotarian understands that this is our chance to make history together. If we can summon the will and the determination in this final hour, we will have written Rotary into the pages of history forever.Dong Kurn (D.K.) FEBRUARY - WORLD UNDERSTANDING MONTH“Fear and Hate Must Go! And they will go when nations have goodwill based on understanding” – Paul Harris

Open-mindedness and tolerance are earmarks of the Rotary approach to the problem. Clubs exist in some 60 nations and opportunities for discord abound. But though membership includes representatives of all religious and political parties, discord is rare in Rotary.“The Rotary way works! But Rotary has no patent on it, for it is but the Golden Rule in action. Any person, any nation, can apply it by displacing negative hatred and fear with goodwill based upon understanding. Peace among nations is not impossible of attainment; they can find peace if they will.” “What makes Rotary great is our expressing the love in our hearts through the work of our hands and our minds," said Wilfrid Wilkinson. "As Rotarians, we don't just sit back and talk about loving other human beings. As Rotarians, we demonstrate that love, and we share that love, through helping each other."

the year during Routine Immunization activities, advocacy efforts and social mobilization initiatives. Be assured of any assistance/ support from the National committee. Feel free to contact me any time. I look forward to your positive response. With Best Wishes for Happy and Polio Free India.Dr. P. Narayana, Vice Chairman, RI India National PolioPlus Society

The Rotary FoundationEvery Rotarian Helps Change the World Every YearThe Rotary Foundation uses generous donations to fund projects by Rotarians and our partners in communities around the world. Corner8. You make upto 3 million red blood cells each

second - 260 billion for the day, delivering oxygen to all your body's cells.

9. You get cut but don't bleed out or get an infection - your body stops blood flow by forming a clot. WBC quickly arrive to destroy any bacteria.

10. The lining of your stomach regenerates about 25% of itself - your tummy contains HCl which helps break down the foods, but also degenerates the stomach lining, which regenerates once every 4-5 days.

11. You don't choke to death - everytime you eat food or drink fluids. Every time you swallow, your soft palate comes up to cover your nasal cavity.

12. Your kidneys clean and recirculate 190 litres of blood - 3 times as much as a car's fuel tank holds. Your kidneys are a high-tech filtration system.

13. You regenerate about 10% of your skeleton every year - your bones - strong as steel but as light as aluminium - are living tissues with blood vessels and nerves, constantly repairing and rebuilding.

14. Your feet produce upto 2 cups of sweat a day- no wonder your shoes and socks smell. A healthy person takes 8000 to 10000 steps a day, equal to circumscribing the earth 4 times in a lifetime!

15. You keep fighting cancer - your body has trillions of cells. If a mutation occurs in the DNA, it can create cancer cells. When a cell divides, proofreading enzymes fix any DNA mistakes, or the broken cell itself commits suicide, in order to save the body.

2. You don't overheat or freeze - Your hypothalamus is an engineering marvel. When your temperature gets too high, blood vessels in your skin dilate to release heat. When temperature drops, they constrict and your sweat glands shut down.

3. Your heart beats from 60 to 100 times per minute - upto 1,00,000 times a day and upto 3 billion times in a person's life. You have 1,61,000 km of various blood vessels, laid end to end, and your heart pumps over 7570 litres of blood every day.

4. You breathe 25,000 times without trying - Your lungs carry 300 million air sacs called alveoli with a surface area of half of a tennis court.

5. Your eye muscles move about 1,00,000 times a day - equal to a 80 km walk.

6. You blink about 15 times a minute or 15,000 times a day - your brain supplies any missing info when your eyes are closed.

7. You produce about 6 cups of saliva a day - that's a lot of spit. Without it, you won't be able to swallow or taste food or speak, it keeps your mouth free of germs.
