4. Events and Action/ Proairectic Code - The events which take
place, which form a sequence of identifiable events (or chapters)
We hear a dog howling Man runs through graveyard and collapse A man
steals from a collapsed man Woman opens a door and begins to
scream
5. Symbolic Code -The extent to which things may stand for
something else Running through a graveyard represents the danger
and creates an ominous atmosphere because he is surrounded by the
dead, is he soon to become one of them? Running- Scared, running
from what? Screams- creates tension and climax
6. Semic Code -The connotations which audiences pick up through
aspects of mise en scene etc. Setting has connotations of wealth:
-the large house -large iron gates -man in a suit Graveyard- he is
surrounded by the dead, is he soon to become one of them?
7. Cultural Code -Reliant on the audience understanding the
specific cultural context of the work
