Younger news consumers are “grazing” for news via the Internet … through their social networks … on their smartphones.

The numbers say … • 71 percent of those ages 18-29 cite the Internet as a main news source.

• Getting news online is associated with education. Two-thirds (65 percent) of college graduates get news online. 28 percent of those without a college degree get news online. Millennials are on track to be the most educated generation in American history.

• 34 percent of those ages 18-24 said they saw news on a social network yesterday.

• Facebook users who get news at the highest rates are 18-to-29-year-olds.

• Twitter is more popular among young African-Americans. 40 percent of African-Americans ages 18-29 use it. 28 percent of whites ages 18-29 use it.
