The Biogas Backpack

The Biogas Backpack is a balloon of flexible, gas tight material for the transport of biogas on one’s back. It is developed to facilitate the sale of biogas in developing countries. The Biogas Backpack aims to provide poor rural households with an affordable source of energy such as fuel for a biogas stove or a lamp for cooking and lighting in order to improve living conditions. The biogas can replace wood fuel thus reducing the environmental impact on deforestation and soil erosion. To use the Biogas Backpack efficiently, it would make sense to produce the biogas in one central, technically more advanced biogas plant. Here farmers in the surrounding areas could contribute to the biogas production by selling substrate to the plant owner whilste buying biogas and fertilizer for themselves.
