Cell phones are omnipresent, even in regions without access to electricity. It is often a huge undertaking for people in these regions to recharge their cell phones. Well-designed "solar kiosks" at key locations will enable rural communities to charge their mobile phones, batteries, lamps as well as offer other services like entertainment, internet and opportunities for communication. The presented Solarkiosk is a lightweight, modular, expendable and easy to transport kit-of-parts that can easily be deployed in remote areas, combining a smart aluminum frame building construction with affordable and sustainable solar PV technology.
