ROTOR – Swimming Power Plant

The ROTOR is a small-scale swimming hydro power plant that generates power by using the current of a river. The kinetic energy of the streaming water is utilized to rotate an electromechanical energy converter (generator) and subsequently to generate electricity, principally in the same way as wind generators. The objective behind it is to supply people living on the banks of gently flowing rivers with energy all around the year. The special feature of the ROTOR is that the design is consistently geared to local manufacturability. A floating platform serves a tractor tire tube, the vertical axis water wheel is mounted on a flat bar steel frame construction, the rotors in the form of an H-Darrieus are made of steel sheets and bicycle dynamos while truck alternators or a specially designed generator serve as energy source. All used materials are variable and therefore available for a small amount of money worldwide.
